Just a quick question, I have sitting next to me 2 bare 20VT alloys. I'm attempting a DIY refurb, and was just wondering, how far do people go normally?

As in painting the actual bit *inside* the tyre as it were? Or is it best to leave it? I was thinking strip it and 1 layer primer, 1 top coat?

What you painting it with? Its good painting the inside if you can get it bloody clean!

I was going to use that yellow acid etch primer stuff then a couple of rattle cans for my sins!

I suppose I should really pay for it to be done professionally, but I'm on a tightwad mission this year!

If so i'd paint the insides, just dust them over and maybe do the spokes the following day. Dont want the spray from the rear killing the faces off.

dont go too deep into the base, need loads of paint to get it back up, there is a lot of paint which fiat used to remove the rough cast...

you need a lot of rattle cans too, think I used 18...?

18 cans ! Seriously? At £3 a can thats £54 quid might as well just pay for em to be done then!

(and rattle cans from hellfrauds at £6 x 18 = £108 + time and sandpaper = probably easier to get it done pro....)

Oh and just to add, I'm already down to bare metal! (Not one of my better ideas, and probably a little too enthusiastic today!)

think i used about 4-6 primer, 7-8 top and 4-5 laquer off the top of my head

then I spilt brake fluid on one just after I was finished....

nice job but way too much paint lmao its £100 per set of alloys at a spray shop

i did my punto alloys nearly a year ago

2 tins of primer (grey)
2 big tins of anthracite 4 light coats per wheel
2 tins of laquer as laquer gives the paint the shine and overall colour
