Can’t see much about this in our ice section.

Basically on a budget install is it worth it?
I know you can spend £10+ a metre if you wanted which I guess on a decent install would be worth it.

But for a tight Yorkshire man like me, im sure this or at push if I felt flush this would be more than enough!

Maybe we can get a bit of a discussion going about the premium stuff too.

Phil

The Maplin stuff seems a little on the weak side if you're gonna run a fair few watts (but OK if just using Head-Unit power), the other stuff I'd use as a minimum but prefer to use 14 awg if money allows on speakers and 12 awg min on subs.

One the I will say though, ICE shops charge FAR too much for all cables, so Fleabay/Maplin/CPC is the way to go.

I once did an install with silver-plated cable for all speakers except the subs, cost £800 just for the cable!

Decent hi-fi speaker cable can be had for around £5/m. A good example would be QED Silver Anniversary, which is a silver plated copper cable.

I'd recommend popping into your local Richer Sounds, and just get a reasonable (flexible) cable cheap there. Having cable which is fairly solid (i.e. a few of the QED cables are not very flexible) could give issues when installing in a car.

It's worth using some entry level home hifi stuff in a car install, not much point using mid range/high end unless you're running some serious hardware (and even so, there's only so much you can achieve in a car setup). Save the real cash for your home hifi kit.

Sideways a LOT

Cheers Simma, I have taken your advice.

Depends where you will place your amp and how you route the cables. But to do all speakers with the amp in the boot I would say 3m each side for the fronts and 1m each side for the rears.

Cheers

Was just going to run from the head unit from the moment. I guess 6m will be on the safe side.

Std. cables are crap, even for a basic head unit.
