Since my engine is out of the cat at the moment, now is a good time to fit a remote oil filter.

I know that some of you have fitted remote oil filter adapters. Could you tell me which kit you went for, how long the pipes were and where you fitted the filter.

Any pictures would be great too.

The thought only occured to me 10 mins ago. I found a supplier that says he offers "universal" kits for £60 +P&P
on ebay but the hoses are not braded. Not sure if that matters though....

Still looking around, I remeber seeing some photos of a coupe with a remote oil filter and thought it was a very good idea considering how fidly it is to change.

Yes, that's it, & that is the ideal place to mount it too!

Where did that kit come from? Is it your car?

Wow thats interesting..
Just wondering, where is the horns relocated to?..and also how do you put a pan below the filter as i'm sure oil will be dripping from it come removal time?

anywhere you can fit em!

If your not running the standard airbox (which presumably you wouldnt be if you where modifying the oil filter) or aquamist with the marea bottle then theres bags of room there?

Quick tip: freezer bag, wrapped around the oil filter, means you never drop any oil and easier to dispose of the filter (in the appropriate place). \:\)

......yeah, took a bit of head scratching but I managed to make up a remote filter kit for myself, mainly cos I was pissed at having to get the engine block dirty everytime I wanted to dump the oil, I have a finished pic of what the setup looks like & the horns, "just" fit in the original location.

I made up a prototype pack, then got Barbz to get some exact length ones made up at think, the Bracket I made myself out of stainless, I have a powerpoint drawing of it, if anybody wants to fold their own \:\)

best of all, NO extra drilling is required, as it picks up of the 2 OEM holes for the horn bracket.

The only downside, is that you need to drop the downpipe to adequately fit the remote filter head, as room is tight & you want them hoses to fit proper, as they are close to the heat shield

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e238/Tazcannibal/bracketfilter2.jpg

hope this helps \:\)

I'll scan the think auto parts list if you want, but to be honest, if you ask Barbz, he will have a few kits probably lying about, the hardest bit is getting the bracket made, I made a few, but then I gave up, as it's a tad time consuming, however a good metal worker could knock these out easily for a few quid \:\)

Yeah that's great. Thanks for that. If you could post the full parts list and the bracket drawing, I'll make one up.

The fitting should be easy as there is nothing but a big hole where the engine used to be \:o and the engine is in a million bits!

it is a really useful conversion. I actually changed my oil on Saturday - so easy compared to the normal filter position. \:#

I'll dig out my speedflow invoice. It's not cheap though. I'll take some pictures too as mine is located where the airbox used to be.

Taz, can you add the list of parts and I'll have a word with Think Auto and ask if they could do a group buy trade discount.

Who would be interested in getting one of these kits? All those of you planning on upgrading to forged internals, it would seem like a sensible option. However, I know you are all skint at the moment!
