Hi all, I am looking at replacing the 4 budget tyres that the previous owners of my coupe (last two were forum members as well!) fitted. According to the info off here, you can have 205/50/16 or 225/45/16, is that correct? If so, what would be the best size to go for out of the two, for the best combination of motorway refinement/ general handling? What profile suits the coop best? It currently has 205/50/16 on each corner. thanks

looking at around 60 quid a corner for toyo proxies if you shop about. Money well worth spending I think.

But why choose 205/50/16 over 225/45/16 or vice versa? Is one size better than the other in terms of handling and ride comfort etc?

both have a very similar amount of grip, but you will get more rim protection with the 225's, which IMO also look better!

Another option might be Falken FK452's. Similar levels of grip to the Toyos, but I think they might last a fair bit longer.

Toyo T1R's or Falken 452's would be excellent choices.

I'm in the Toyo camp - and they've lasted over 12 months. Maybe I drive like a wuss.

toyo t1-r's all the way, just had some fitted to the m3 and now i cant spin the wheels in second from 40mph in the wet where i could do the same in 3rd with the old tyres.not that expensive either compared to other tyres, cost me £327 for 2x225/45 17 and 2x245/40 17's which is pretty good.think the 205/50 16's are about £70 each off the net

A fan of Goodyear Eagle F1's GSD3s here. Blackcircles.com do them for about 85 quid each...fitted. Lasted for about 9 months and are only looking less than half worn. That is 16,000 miles, 90% motorway, 10% fun.

quite a few people have had bulges in their sidewalls including myself with eagle F1's, but other than that heard nothing but good things about them

In the Wet F1's are amazing, though I can't comment on the Toyos as I've never used them.

I've had Coupes for the thick end of 8 years now and Toyos are the best tyres I've used. I use T1-R on mine and they're great. F1s were OK but "went off" qhen about half-worn,and they're dearer too. Just bought a pair of T1-Rs from Camskill for £60 each.

I've only used Toyos on the PLus, so the 225 size - sorry, can't give a comparison between the 2 sizes but I wouldn't have thought it would affect the general characteristics that much?

You're right, it's the F1s I was thinking about which aren't available in 225s
