Hello

Ive just had a bump in my coupe.
Im not going to admit its my fault but from the front end damage i'll leave you to make your mind up.
Both parties are ok, but my bonnet came off the worst!

Basically looking at the damage I want advice on what to do. I have never had to make a claim before and am sure mine a write off. Her car was a 54 mazda 6 i think with a scratched bumper and a half tennis ball size ish dent to the pannel below.
Damage to mine as far as i can tell is just the obvious. Wheel rubs on bumper when turning right, and the bonnet is rubbing slightly on the drivers door.
We exchanged details but she is going to await my call this even to see what we are going to do.

Advice greatly appreciated, pic below

phill, firstly at least your both ok.

if the 2nd party is happy with settling without a claim it'll stop your coop being written off for the sake of hopefully cosmetic panels, aslong as the chassis leg isnt bent it looks like the obvious and a slam panel.

just hope she dosent want to claim for whiplash etc as it would need to go through the insurance, carlt has all the parts in stock to get it fixed, either way if it is written off id buy it back and get her fixed, hope that helps im sure carlt or others will be alomg with more advice.

mine was well written off with similar damage, although it has now been repaired and back on the road by someone who bought the salvage.

If I'd had the space, I MIGHT have fixed it back up myself....but the payout/buy back didn't make it worthwhile money wise.

Depends how much you love it and the pre-accident condition

Cheers for the advice guys.

After a quick call to Carlt he guesses on about a £1500 repair bill.

Apparently I can actually withdrawl a claim I make if i change my mind.

The best thing for the moment is to inform the insurers i guess, and I could withdrawl it at a later date.

And i loved it quite alot! I guess this could be a chance to get myself a stunning moon grey or le/plus, if anyone will insure me that is!

Thanks again

Don't forget tho, if you don't make a claim it's 1500 for yours PLUS the other car! wink

I know.

Just called the insurers and there sorting out an engineer to take a look if its a write off, which im sure it wil be because where will they get a new bonnet from?!

Im gutted the fact that they might take it away and I might not see it again!

What has been damaged to make it over £1500?

Buying it back will definatly be an option i will consider, depends if the numbers from the insurance company add up at the end of the day.
I guess if I cant drive a coupe, the next best thing may be a project to fix one up!
I have however been considering selling it to get myself a moon grey or le, so if i get a decent enough pay out (which im not counting on), maybe this could be a good opportunity.

The £1500 comes from
New bonnet
spray bonnet
new side light
new head light
radiator grill
maybe new bumper/bit the bumper mounts to
New drop memeber (appartently costs £20 but a body shop charges about £500 to fit.
Im sure there will be a few other bits too.

Phil

Well, its been two weeks and im yet to get anywhere with this. Although the engineer finally came out monday.

Is it normal to take this long?

Its so frustrating that im entitled to a hire car if it is to be repaired, but im waiting on this engineers report!
On the other hand though, think its what they call a total loss.
