Anywhere that has roads
Seeing as the more confident/experienced/knowledgable modders have worked out most of the issue for us scroungers and given the success of the Group Buys, it occurs to me that there is a clear and very easy modding path for any 20VT and even 16VT Coops up to and above 400Bhp?

It seems that;

- Gtech 1 and Gtech 2 chips are always going to be easily available.

- The Pro Alloy FMIC kit is on it's 3rd group buy and Pro Alloy seem to be keen to keep going with this good thing.

- As is also true for the Helix Paddle and Organic clutches from MardiGras.

- The Blueflame exhaust GB seems to be doing well too.

- There's a small variety of good tried and tested turbos that fccukers seem to use GT28R, RSR, 71Rs etc.

- The Walbro fuel pump is on it's 2nd GB as well.

Rog has at least for me, offered to fit some of the above to ball achey bits once I get them in.

All that's missing is some fccuk 'approved' forged internals, flowed and ported parts.

Doesn't seem to be much else missing for a good 350-450Bhp apart from the basics like boost control, A/F, colder plugs etc. I don't think I've ever seen modding so easy. I guess it's a well done all and just one step away from getting some fccuk approval on this? What's the thoughts on a sticky?

Who needs Barbz anymore?! wink

You have missed out rolling roads and upgraded brakes as an essential part of a 'modding path'

Having a Safe Modding 'tried and tested' might make a good thread, possibly a sticky, but I dont think club approval is appropriate or wise.

Brakes? They only make you go slower right? What's the point in that? laugh

It was only a quick thought, but it could be expanded easy enough. Perhaps adding stuff to the list as they become tried, tested, have a supplier always ready to supply and a fitter always ready to fit?

edit: i.e. someone said the Fiat Coupe comes with 220Bhp standard. Maybe but the mk2 comes with 400Bhp as standard. smile

Maybe a suggested path, but when you 'approve' things you could get into sticky issues with people claiming their engine blew because of your approved modding etc.

Yes but spending £8k all at once is quite a big step. Especially considering the car would only have cost about £3k.

You've missed cams off you list.

evil

Happy to write up my thoughts on it when I get time. I wrote the old list of stages so I could probably rehash that but things have moved on a lot from then. All credit to Barbz he is the one who pushed the boundaries so that 400BHP is now seen as an attainable target...
