I think he's given up on the BMW engine and is going for a Mazda rotary.

Hmmm - a nice V8 up front would really help the Coupe's already nose-heavy weight distribution It would probably fall over forwards if it braked too hard que the benny hill theme

This is a long shot with this question, but would a alfa romeo GTV engine fit, the 3.0 v6 one, thats not a bad sized engine (not quite a v8 i know) i assume theres alot of similarities between these cars, i may be wrong

blimey! Went through all the 21 pages and I really don't see why he started with the coupe. It would be easier to buy a bonnet a roof and two doors from carlt and built a spaceframe for it. Not much left at the moment is there?

i've seen it recently. The highly tuned 3-disc Mazda Cosmo engine is mated to a BMW M5 gearbox and a M5 rearsuspension. The engine+gearbox is really far rearwards so the propshaft is about 300mm's long! It's a nutty project but hey it's fun!

Per, I noticed that he's squashed everything way back! Why is that? to improve the weight distribution or what? What is he going to do with the 40+ cm of free space he's getting in front?

From start I suspect he had to squash it back because of the V8 and the sloping Coupe hood. Now it's weight distribution I think!

Hmmm - a nice V8 up front would really help the Coupe's already nose-heavy weight distribution It would probably fall over forwards if it braked too hard Not if the engine is behind the front wheels and the gearbox was next to your knees/feet (which seems to be the case on that build) and with RWD! I don't think he's going to have any issues with weight distribution personally! Looks like an amazing project, there's a dyno printout with 800bhp or so in that thread, is that the power of the rotary engine he's fitting? Fastest coupe in the world no problemo when it's finished if it is!
Sideways a LOT

That's impressive but totally crazy. He's going to have minimal, if any, suspension travel as the wheels are as tall as the bonnet. It's also going to be the only car I know where you have to remove the dashboard to get to the engine!
I think he just likes cutting and welding.

clearly the coupe oil consumption wasnt enough for him, and a rotory was needed as the 20vt just would use enough oil.

Or maybe there are more to it....
Then I´m the one building that strange car U all have strange thoughts of. I´ll better explain some of the things u been looking at!
Every small thing has a mening to it.
Answer to some questions: NIGEL-Bmw engine heavier than the 5cyl?? NOOO!! Sorry to say it, but the so loved 5cyl engine are with the gearbox a quite heavy thing. 258kg!!!+ driveshafts and all that! The complete v8 with all original stuff as the over 20kg flywheel stopps at 216kg..
VAS- I really didnt mean to go this far from the beginning.. But as time went, I decided to build my dream car! So thats why i build it piece by piece...
Engine monted to far back... makes the car at this moment 50,4% on the backwheels. Will probably be almost a perfect 50/50 in the end.And that has been the goal all the time.
TIPOBOY-Must remove dashboard to remove engine? Or maybe I´ve built it so I can losen som bults and push it forward 7cm and then lift the car up whith the engine and gearbox still on the ground (or that wagon I´m gonna build for it) And for the the wheels to hit the bonnet.. ??? I hope U realize that I´ts not gonna look like a Fiat Coupe when I´m done whith it! ;-) More like a supercar ...
Maybe I can answer all your questions, if U have any..
And forgive my bad spelling.. I´m from sweden U know ;-)

Welcome Toggex!
Your fabrication is fantastic, the quality of work looks very good. I like the suspension mounts particularly.
Will you fabricate a fibre glass body to cover the frame?
Very nice work shop.

Rich

Tog.. Great project! I've seen it a year ago I think on zatzy, but language is a bit of a problem What's the power goal you're aiming to get? Can you write some basic info about the car.. Wich parts being used etc... Keep up the good work.

Thanks....
I sure can try to write wich parts i used this far!
From start I was just about to tune the original engine. My first goal was to reach 500hp. But with much power comes the loss of grip. So I looked around for fun and found a complete rearsuspension from the E39 M5. That was really were it started to get out of line. Rwd is the right thing for me. Anyway...... The car is built by this parts so far.
*Rear suspension from E39 M5 *Gearbox from E39 M5 *Frontsuspension from a lefthand Toyota Supra TT * A 3Rotary specialbuild engine with all the right intern. Another engine with the same things as I have has produceed over 1400hp. Mine is "only" tuned with 899Hp and 833Nm (614,4Ibs/ft) * A sparco Rollcage + over 50meters of tube *rear wheels is Works Equip 3split 19x12"-345/30-19Michelin PS2+ front wheels 19x10"-285/35 Mich.PS2 *Willwood 4pot endurance in front and willwood 6pot for the rear. *Tilton 3disc clutch with nascar flyweel in the same size as Tilton ( 185mm) * Koni coilovers with HR springs.
Thats some of the stuff I´ve collected!

oh.. By the way! I forgot to tell why I didn´t end up using the Bmw V8. I could never get that engine through with turbo or kompressor without being unlegal. And with a unlegal engine ther is no value to the car. So I went to the more expensive option. But with the 3 rotor it´s gonna be legal. I just have to registrate (??) it for what it has original.. 280Hp ! And maybe do it without that HX60 turbo ;-)

Thanks for your positive opinion!
Still I´m not sure how to fabricate the body from the window and forward. I´d like to make it all in steel, but because this is my first realy BIG job on a car I´m afraid I have to make the most of the widebody all over the car in both steel and fibreglass. There´s a small plan in my mind of have to make those things. The first part that i truly know how to do is the bonnet. I´m gonna cut it in three parts. Cause i dont want to open up the whole front to reach the engine.(or more likely where it was ;-) ) I´m gonna slice it in the line that goes from the windshield down to the headlights. Thats gonna be the bonnet with a big scoop in it thats letting the air go up and over the windscreen. And about the front i have no idea still how it should look.
Anyway... just wait and see.... :-)

There´s a lot of things i´d like to explain. But my spelling forbids me to try ;-) About the power!! I don´t think it´s gonna be driveble with more than 550-600hp. So thats my main goal for street use. With slicks at the strip I suppose that I can use all the power. Maybe!! Because it´s not fully tuned yet. I´m looking to reach about 1100+hp just for trying. But that´s far into the future offcause....
