OK, so which is the best MP3 player FM transmitter to go for?

I have one of the original Belkins, imported from the States long before they were even on sale over here, let alone legal, but it's cack.

The Monaro stereo is a Blaupunkt double DIN, but functionality-wise it's about as basic as an Aussie redneck. Am thinking about changing it but in the meantime I need to listen to something other than the radio or 6 CDs which I never remember to swap.

Need one for a Sony MP3 player, not an "iPPod" ;\) The Griffin universal one gets some good reviews, the Belkin Tunecast 3 also (although as above, the Belkin I have isn't good) and the Cygnett (sic) from Maplin is supposed to be good as well. Gear4 also do one.

Would be good if it were rechargeable and had reasonable battery life. Again, the old Belkin about gets through 2 x AAAs for about every full length album \:o

Fire away, chaps and chapesses.....

I could be wrong, but from what I hear there isn't a 'good' one, they're all a bit duff.

Get the cig lighter attachment for the Belkin, no more batteries?

Griffin Itrip seem to have the best rep. Will never be as good as an aux lead though. Why not connect it direct ?

Can't connect it direct John, the Blaupunkt doesn't have an aux input anywhere.

The Sony arrangement with the NW-HD5 interface which I have in the Coupe works perfectly, but it isn't an option in the Monaro unless I either find a compatible Sony Double-DIN unit, or go for a single-DIN with an adaptor fascia. Both are options but I'm not sure how the single DIN would look, and the Sony Double-DIN is not the greatest bit of kit I've ever seen.....and pricey with it.

Does the Monaro have a cd changer too? If not you can buy an Aux in lead that connects into the back of the Blaupunt unit using the CD changer input. Even if you do have a cd changer it may be worth disconnecting, and selling it and use the ipod instead.

Pretty sure the Double Din unit will have a cd changer socket.

It's one of those built-in changers where you feed 6 discs in through the same hole in the front. haven't checked but I'm reliably informed on the PH forum that there's nothing on the back which can be used for an input.

I'll try another FM transmitter, at least they're cheap, then will have to decide/bite the bullet on changing the HU. Another issue is that the speakers are all 2 ohm, which limits HU choice unless you start changing all the speakers as well.

looking to get one of those transmitters for the Rover too.

Trouble is for each one i look at the reviews are always so mixed. Also the quality control seems to be an issue with most brands. Think I will give the itrip universal a try.

Not any more, they used to be illegal but are now allowed.

Interference is certainly an issue though.

Check out the Harmon Kardon Drive & Play - great interface to the iPod and nice controls

FM thingy uses a wired transmitter instead of broadcasting an FM signal - better than most FM transmitters, but still not as good as an aux input

I've tried the Belkin and the Griffin and they were both rubbish for the coop's Clarion, mainly because I could never get it stop 'fm searching' every 2 minutes. I've been reduced to using the cassette tape line-out which is pretty lo-fi but better than nothing but OK for most of the time.
