I have EGT and find it useful! I would think even more so if you were on track and was driving the car hard for a longer period!

I think they are only useful if you get an audiable warning if it goes outside of range or else some remedial action takes place such as cutting boost to base boost. You will not see the gauge when something is about to go because 9 times out of 10 your foot will be on the floor and you'll be more worried about the road or track

yep, my controller has two configurable outputs, so you can have a BIIIIGGG red button flashing on your face plus a buzzer, or a wastegate opening switch. Also if you have a controller interpreting both AFR and EGT, you can use and/or conditions to activate your warning/measure taking actions I'd say go for it, I've actually changed (to a degree at least) the way I drive. Obviously as John says, when you're flat out and on the watch for what's happing in front and around you, there's no way you can be watching the dials! V.

The EGT I have has a trigger which is the SPA dual temp gauge. For AFR my wideband (AEM UEGO) is outputing a voltage relative to the AFR. That is interpreted by my ECU but there is no reason you cannot create a simple circuit to trigger an alarm when you hit a threshold voltage. I would suggest it would be better though to have both trigger a normally closed relay on your boost control solenoid feed so it opens the relay and cuts your boost rather than just buzzing or flashing a warning

John,
not that easy, as you, idealy, have to interpret both TPS and boost signals and then compare them to the AFR. Then you should really create a table with various values out of which conditions are unacceptable... Not your day to day type of app to sort out imo as you probably end up with 3D tables.
Best bet is EGT tbh. Then got to be AFR+boost if it's easy with a cond.

No you don't! As long as you are at full boost you should be targetting a predefined AFR range regardless of throttle position because you will only get to full boost near full throttle. So just use a std boost actuating switch in conjunction but make sure it latches so that you dont see-saw.

Personally, I think they're well worth it, especialy if you've got an EBC and bypassing the ECU safety features. As said above, rig the EGT to a buzzer and stick they AFR gauge in the glovebox ... otherwise you'd be gawping at the gauges all the time!
