Hi all,

just have a couple of questions regarding mapping....... if your car is live mapped with say an Apexi Avc-r or any other ebc set at for argument sake 1.2bar max then tailing of to 1.1bar at the red line and you then remove the ebc and replace it with the original ebv will the chip control the boost in the same manner?

I expect you might get major boost spikes , but i'm just trying to get my head around if a chip mapped for a car with a boost controller is actually giving the instructions for what boost the engine will see and the ebc is just capping/limiting the boost so to speak and without it the boost could be all over the shop?

Cheers
John

It depends what the ECU is telling the EBV to do. plug it back in and find out?

If it goes all wonky and cant hold a steady boost level then it's trying to set it to a higher level than it can control. (happens to me with a gtech 2)

Cheers mate, I know the standard Fiat chip controls the boost with the ebv which can cut the boost back for safety, I just want to know what would happen if you replace an electronic boost controller with the standard ebv when the car has been mapped, would the chip control boost in the same way as when it was set up with the boost controller? And would the ebv be able to keep it in check with its usual safety features?

Cheers
John

Who mapped the car and what chip was in there before?

John,
I doubt a tuner will bother to sort out the overboost table if he sees an aftermarket boost controler onboard (mind you it's not extremely easy to get the boost right...)

Thanks Vas........I guess this means that replacing an ebc with the original ebv on a car that has been mapped will not work to well?

Flea my new coupe isn't mapped I have a few spare bits, chips etc from the old coupe and I want to start playing with the new coupe but I haven't got an ebc for it yet, the old coupe ran with an apexi (which I really miss).......so im wondering what will happen if I stick the chip in the new coupe, would the chip in theory control boost and the ebv still cut back boost where necessary? I appreciate it's not safe and even if the chip will control boost the fuelling be out due to it being a different car, even if it has been modded in same way, im just thinking aloud and wondering how a chip from a mapped car with an ebc will react to being paired up with an ebv.

Cheers
John

Unless someone with the right h/w and s/w sees the bin in your chip it's not possible to tell.
However, the options for a mapper are:
A. leave the overboost table as is on stock ecu
B. fill the whole table with FF values (i.e. 256 in 8bit speak) so that the ebv is always pushing the wastegate to produce as much boost as it can
C. properly tune the overboost table spending possibly as long time as they needed to map the car in the first place...

I'd vote in order of preference:
B.
A.

(wouldn't go anywhere near C...)

hope it helps

V.
