Dont you hate it when you're a forgetful..and little bit clumsy maybe? Or..when you turn up at a garage wanting an oil change. You ask the man nicely if he wouldnt mind having a snoop about looking for the oil leak you've noticed over the past couple of days. "of course" he says. He didnt have to look very hard. "it seems as though you've FORGOTTON to replace the oil filler cap last time you topped this baby up".... DOH. Oh what a fool I felt. In that split second I was trying to think of some logical explanation for it that didnt involve me looking like a total tool. I failed. So, with the guy thinking I was a total idiot, he informs me off my front brake disks that are knackered....does the oil change..then he asks me to pay him for his hard work. And that is when I find out that I have FORGOTTON to bring any money. The joys of being a moron. Oh yeah..whats the deal with this. I swear I'm being an uber moron yet again.. The guy put around 4.3 litres of oil into my coop. I come home, switches her off. I get 0.6 litres ready for the topping up extraveganza. Wait a few minutes for the magic to happen... Check the oil..and its full. How can it be full? My dad also checked..full. I waited longer and checked..still full. Am I more of an idiot that I thought and doing something wrong..? I dont see how I can be, but after todays fiasco I have to question my own ability to perform the most basic of tasks.. I dont expect any actual replys..I do expect lots of P155 taking plz.

Well. I didnt write that proporly.
I read on here somewhere not to put the full 5 litres in because there'll still be some oil lurking in the pipes etc so theres danger of over filling?
I told him 4.5. But when I got home there was more than 0.5 litres left in my 5litre oil bottle. If you know what I mean? lol.

Have you had to clean up the engine bay? One of my mate's had a Scirocco years ago & his cousin checked the oil & didn't tighten up the cap properly - looked like a Saudi oilfield afterwards! And the oil nearly caused him to have a nasty accident as it made the under bonnet steering components mega slippy!! I forgot to close the bonnet properly yesterday - that could have been (ahem) "interesting" at motorway speeds!

Get into the habit of sitting the filler cap over the opening for the bonnet catch when topping your oil up. Any oil that drips off will lubricate the mechanism and there's no way you'll shut the bonnet without putting it back on first
This is how it should have come out of Torino!

Well knowing me, I'd go to shut the bonnet and it wouldnt shut. So instead of lifting it to see whats what. I'd just keep on slamming the bonnet harder until it closed.

Vinno - welcome to the club.
Im president numbnuts, as i've done it 3 times now.
1. On the way to get engine stripped to find fault - engine was knackered. 2. Found out at Scottish Italian Car day, infront of several fccukers. 3. Recently when i arrived at a garage regarding an oil leak.
