Meagy has done some nice detailing in his engine bay, some info here Engine bay I've just got a spare rocker cover, fuel rail etc. (I got my spares from REX), and am starting to get these ready for painting. Takes a bit of elbow grease! Has anybody added braided pipework?

The service manual CD covers this stuff, guess it's a case of how confident you are. Certainly the rocker cover isn't to big a job, and there are a couple of how to guides Rocker Cover

I got a polishing kit off ebay, three different polishing bars and polishing wheels. Bit of advice, wet and dry the surface first to get it perfectly smooth, you need to get rid of all the pitting then you will get a mirror finish. Well worth the effort and dare I say quite satisfying to do!!

MMmmm, don't agree that polishing takes ages, did my coilpack cover in under 2 hours from start to finish. I think you could do the whole lot in a day or 2 days max from start to finish. Saying that I do think your painting covers looks the bizz!! But I prefer the polished look!

I was wondering, is it possible to clean and paint the rocker cover in place, without the need to remove it all? Anyone else has tried it, what do I need if possible?

Guys would cleaning my engine bay with my steam wall paper stripper be a bad idea? If i remove the "plate" that held against the wall then I get a narrow steam blast from the tube. Obviously it would need ot be kept away from the electrics, but appart from that would it do any damage tot he plastics?

I've used a 3 bar household steam cleaner, using the fine nozzel. I found it not as effective as I thought it may be. I used spray engine degreaser and then steam which worked quite well and I've had no problems.

Why even try to paint it in-situ? Takes less than 30 minutes to remove and the gasket + o-rings cost almost nothing. Also would make the job so much easier.

Well I've just had mine powder coated, so I thought that I'd post up a couple of photos on this thread . Before After - Option 1 After - Option 2 I prefer the contrast of the silver coilpack cover, but what does everyone else think? It certainly makes a huge difference to the engine bay . I've also had a inlet manifold done in silver, and have plans for my spare plenum to be done in satin black to match the rocker cover. Might have to do something with the lettering on the rocker though, as it looks a bit too subtle at the moment . Phil

Just buy them and paint them up them with some light rubbing from 1200grit sandpaper should key the surface enough to let the paint stick to it...

Thought I'd resurrect this old thread now that my engine bay is looking more respectable . Here are a few shots of mine following the recent engine rebuild, when I took the chance to have a few powder coated bits fitted : Photo 1 Photo 2 Photo 3 Thanks to Pinin for the coil-pack cover, which looks rather smart with the black I think. The rocker cover, plenum, inlet manifold, fuel and strut brace are all my own work (well, with a little help from a local powder coater for the first three ) Phil

That was a bit of a victim of my engine failure to be honest . When the coolant system was pressurised by the engine it blew up like a balloon . To be fair to Pro Alloy, it did not split at all, but I have decided to revert back to the standard one for the time being. It is still serviceable, so I may well go back to it when I finally get my engine sorted out! Phil
