i know there are hundreds of tyre threads, but i cant find one that says exactly what tyres will fit? i need some new ones and have always had goodyear F1's (in my opinion the best value for money, falkens and toyos included!) however ive been offered 225 40 16s, and wondered whether they will fit the fronts and rears? anyone fitted this size and know whether there is any detriment? cheers guys

only two sizes that are correct for standard alloys

205/50 16 or 225/45 16

Any other size will be incorrect

Do a search on those numbers and you'll find lots and lots of discussions

What do you mean by 'fit?' If you've got standard alloys then they will go on. The 'correct size' is actually 225/45 so they'll have a slightly smaller rolling radius.

Effects will be the speedo will over-read a bit and you'll have slightly less comfort given the reduced profile but I'd doubt that you'd notice either.

Try Hankook RS2 tyre from Camskill. Much better grip than any other tyre, but only lasts 6000 miles!! As I only do 5000 per year, they're not a bad investment for £65 per corner.

they still make the Goodyear F1 gsd3's im told by my supplier? not that it matters too much, Hankook you say huh, comparible to goodyear F1s? what about the other way, IE, 225/50/16 will the aspect ratio be noticably larger? (in terms of speedo reading under, and looking Kak)

by the way this is a really good calculator for tyre sizes etc.. tells you a whole range of tyre/wheel sizes that will fit your motor, what percentage difference in size there will be, and what speed your speedo will read on the new size
