Hello everyone. At the weekend I fitted a GTEC1, PRV and Boost gauge to my car. I also fitted a new lambda sensor and Colder plugs (The expensive NGK ones recommended on here)

I am currently awaiting my RR session, so I am only running 1 bar of boost ( I figured this is safe due to it being the standard level).

When cold in 3rd and fourth gear I get a fairly loud ticking noise which sounds like it is coming from the boost gauge. However the sound is very similar to pinking. It is loud enough to hear inside the car with the stereo on.

This ticking dissapears when the engine is warm, which also has me concered that it may be pinking.
I am running super unleaded fuel.

What should I do guys? remove the boost gauge and see if the noise stops? Or just put the car back to stock until I get the car rolling roaded.

Thanks,
Simon.

I will try it later. I have had noisy gauges in the past. an Autogauge and a Tim.

I very much doubt its pinking mate. The coupe can easily handle 1 bar of boost with a GTEC1 especially if you’re on high octane fuel. Anyhow even if it was pinking the ECU will pull back the timing and boost. You know pinking sounds like loose change in your pocket is that the noise its making?

Agreed. The gtech1 doesnt run that much ignition advance plus running 97+ octane fuel its unlikely.

i had one go couldnt really hear in under load in low gears but nearer the top end and the longer rev range the motor quietened down a little and heard a sort of ticking/warble sound..
turned out to be a blown gasket on clinder 5,because its tri metal it would vibrate if blown lol

I have found the cause and it is the gauge. I tried bending the tube over to isolate it, and the noise stopped..

I do have a cracked maniold as well mind, but that only ticks when cold. Thats on my summer jobs list. I intend to fix that and fit a new radiator at the same time.

Thanks guys.. \:\)

Where is the boost gauge? Is it in the centre console? I very occasionally (1 time in 100) get a loud ticking noise coming from around here. I think it was something to do with the water pump? Only when cold and only for a few seconds, then I don't hear of it for months.

I have mounted my gauge to the A pillar. It makes this type of irregular clicking when the car is on boost.

It doens't make any noise whan the car is started up though.
