I was reading the ratings for the Coop in PPC magazine today and noticed the old "posh Tipo" listed as a downside to the Coop grr .

It annoys me that there are other cars like Cossies,M3`s and AMG Mercs that are almost identical to their lesser models with only slight styling touches (most of which only car fans would really notice anyway) don`t get derided in this way frown .

I haven`t seen anybody trying to convert a Tipo into a Coop crazy ,which when compared with making an Escort look like a Cosworth would be rather a monumental if not impossible task. So why do they feel the need to point out the Coops underpinnings when the bodywork and interior is so radically different from the Tipo?

Jealousy maybe confused

Baz smile

By the way, nowt wrong with Tipo`s they`re cool

Coupe is also the same floorplan as Alfa 155Q4 and Lancia Dedra Integrale - so it's just a common part, but very different brands and final products. The Tipo isn't a bad base, it's very stiff and quite strong. I actually quite like the "under-dog label, the Fiat Coupe the supercar slayer"

Should have "best of bread" soon, coupe looks, 20vt power with integrale (4x4) running gear. I pick up the Lanica Dedra Integrale from Calais on Saturday. Can't wait!

I would love to increase the power to a cool 300 to 400 bhp as well - but I had to sell my performance parts to buy the Integrale, ready for the 20vt coupe 4x4 conversion.

I suppose the Tipo TD engine could be used by someone to make the best MPG coupe - but that isn't my bag....

Well if you look up their review of the Escort RS Turbo, for example, they list the downside as "The Mk3/4 Escort bit" - so thats one thats been derided that way!
Anyway, chill man as they rate the Tipo and say it has a great engine and dynamics!

'Not informed' is probably the best way to sum it up. wink
We know it's a very special car so why care what the uninitiated might say or think?

Indeed an absolutely outstanding car in every form ( currently have two 16v 2.0 L ones so not biased laugh )

I personally think of the Coupe as a Tipo in a party dress, but in truth that is innacurate.

I would do as above and ignore the idiots at these magazines smile

On the plus side I've heard the Audi TT described as a "Golf in drag" by some magazine or other, probably Top Gear smile

If that’s the worst they could come up with in terms of downsides to the coupe then I think we should be quite glad about that…..

Yep - typical lazy journalism - I've never read this rag personally. We all know that Coupes are based on hatches/saloons since the day of the 'tina/capri - that's why they're so cheap - duh! rolleyes They're just trying to be clever & fill copy. I used to run Porsche 924's & the amount of puerile guff that was spouted about it being a VW in drag with a van engine was the same infantile copy.

There's a lot of Alfa & Lancia DNA in the Fiat Coupe as well - they forgot to mention those didn't they. grr
