Well, this is kind of tuning as it is an improvment laugh

Have been thinking about leaving the spare wheel/jack in the garage and using a spare in a can. - at the moment I am taking a 20kg wheel everywhere I go

Can anyone reccommend a good brand?

anyone used one? any good? does it actually do what it says on the can?

I read this only last a few hundred km's, so does it actually make getting a proper repair done worse,

Cheers

ive removed the spare on my old car, the 156, and now my coop (ive done a 5-lug hub conversion so the spare no longer fits) and frankly, i didnt feel a difference either times.

keep the spare and avoid the headaches.

I have used this spare wheel in a can stuff on a Rover. It lasted for 10,000 miles until the tyre wore out.. I think it was Holts tyerweld that I used.

it does rolleyes according to the aerosol it says remove the object causing the puncture (nail or whatever) and the can will inflate and seal the tyre. (If you cant see the cause of the puncture i suppose you just get on with it)

I don't know if it's true but I got told a number of manufacturers now include a tin of this stuff instead of a spare wheel

Tis true! I had the *pleasure* of meeting a very irate member of the motoring public who had travelled a mere 50 miles in his brand new Honda Accord when the rear nearside tyre shredded.

Apparently it was going to take a very good gastro-intestinal surgeon several hours work to remove the can of tyre foam from the car salesman when the customer returned to the dealership! sick

Great stuff if it's a simple puncture but useless if the tyre shreds or the hole is too large.

I've used them several times, always worked.
I too have no spare since I have the battery there instead. (and no matter what other people think - this makes quite a difference! smile )

If you get a plain old puncher through the tread by a nail or screw etc AFAIK it should work fine. However if you slice a sidewall or damage a rim etc it wont help and you'll be stuck.

That`s what I was gonna say too smile . I would far rather carry a spare (even if it`s a weedy space-saver rolleyes ) that can get me home from more or less any wheel related problem. I mean fat lot of use a can of foam would have done me when my alloy broke up a couple of months ago.

Good old space-saver saved the day laugh .

Baz smile
