Well it's not Garrett

There is alot of turbo talk on here lately and I thought I would throw one extra into the mix. - one I looked into for my car The Borg Warner (aka schwitzer) s256, I believe they make porsche turbos for the 997. Anyone got any experience with them?

here is its comp map against a GT3582R
S256 vs GT3582R

This turbo flows nearly as well as a gt3582R up top but it's surge line is more like a gt3071R down low. - basically has a very wide map, also it flows higher pressures better (more efficently)

It has got some negatives
Its heavy, about twice the weight of a garrett
It's big - problem with space?
it's journal bearing so gives up about 250-400rpm spool to a GT series garrett
Oil cooled only - appears not to be an issue.
T3 flange

On the plus
cheaper than garrett
twin scroll exhaust side available
Built like a tank apparently so reliable
rebuildable fairly cheaply (GT normally new core)
More efficent at higher pressure - much wider map

Anyway here is a back to back on honda-tech with the garrett

at 20psi (1.35 bar) it gave up 250rpm spool time and made the same power, but at 24psi (1.6bar) it made 30ft/lbs more and 20bhp more than the gt3076R. So if you are running big boost, maybe

Anyone look at them? Still Garrett I guess as not many run that sort of boost (1.6bar plus) but anyway, another option. Mitsi evo guys like them as they run 30psi (2bar) plus .If anyone has any more info/experience please put it up.

Cheers
