More meta alarm woes...

I've had an occasional problem with my 1998 20V NA for the past year where sometimes the key fob (rectangular with a single rubber button with diagonal bars) won't open the car - always happens when I am out and about...

When it happens, I use the key to open the car, setting the alarm off and then I drive home. The alarm stops after about 30 secs, but may go off again if I hit a bump. When I get home, I disconnect the battery and leave it overnight. In the morning I reconnect and all is fine - the key fob works - that is until this time round...

Now every time I reconnect the battery, the alarm goes off and the fob won't turn it off. I knew that the fob batteries were fine but just for the hell of it I splashed out for new batteries - no difference.

Please can someone tell me how to disable the alarm? I appreciate that it is not the sort of thing to post on here , so perhaps someone can PM me with the info.

There is a key switch in the glove box which apparently disables the alarm - but I don't have the key - is it possible to get one?

I understand that there is something up by the fuses that can be disconnected.

Any help will be much appreciated by me - and my neighbours no doubt...

cheers

ernie
