Are there any Fuel additives for better performance for street cars. Lately i have seen a self product called Liqui Moly Speed Tec Benzine. A lot of petrol heads use it in their Jap n German cars and claim it improves performance. Has anyone tried this? Would it be safe on a 20VT?

Hi - generally not worth it, if you are talking about octance boosters,

Modern jap cars have the ability to take advantage of hi octane fuel, due to there advanced ECU which can adjust timing etc to gain etc power, the old 16V coupe (i think the 20vt is the same) aren't that smart and are mapped from the factory for 95ron.

Alot of people including myself use 99ron, just for ther safety margin it gives on a modded coupe running more boost but really the car still thinks it has 95ron in the tank.

These things tend to be pretty expensive as well, you will find most people on this forum just run a good high grade 99ron pump gas like Shell V-power/mobil 8000/BP Ulimate

Thanks mate. I have been owning the 20VT for 6 years now. Always use 98 octane. Was curious about the liqui moly as it says Benzine. I now that Benzene was used as a fuel additive in racing though FIA has banned it nowadays.
Anyways i take your advise. Best is to stay then have a coupe problem.

anyway they tried & tested various fuel additives on the market, & gues what, they didn,t do what they said on the tin in fact one product actualy reduced power if anyone on here knows thier stuff oil additives are worse... complete waste of money, but thats a different story

The UAE n Oman market is mainly dominated by ADNOC, ENOC, SHELL and TOTAL due to the presence of their refineries here. After that BP and Mobil have a small market share. I think Liqui Moly is strictly marketed in Europe. They even sponsor fuel needs to F1 teams like Force India. The Speed Tec Benzine is not an Octane booster nor is it an Oil additive. Apparently it has some Anti Knock Index properties.

shell and bp recently announced their profits for the first three months of this year, combined it was around 7bn iirc.

the point is, if companies like these, who also make 'super' unleaded and even specific race fuels, and who spend £xxx millions on R£d haven't put this stuff in their fuel then chances are these off the shelf additives wont do much. (if it was worth it, and there was a profit to be made they'd have done it)

it could be worth it if the fuel you are getting is truly of questionable quality, but generally speaking dont waste your cash

Octane number is a measure of knock resistance, but if you look at the UK Liqui Moly site, you find Liqui Moly Speedtec, Liqui Moly Diesel and Liqui Moly Petrol (except for Petrol it talks about Diesel ) all classed as fuel treatments for smoother running and so on, they just look like detergents of some sort to me, for cleaning injectors and the like. Don't forget that in some languages "benzene" or similar words are used for petrol (benzina in Italian). Benzene itself has a high octane, similar to toluene.

But high octane does not mean higher energy content and more power! What it does mean is higher resistance to knocking, so that if the engine management can take advantage of running more ignition advance at higher engine speeds, you could get more power simply because with lower octane it would start to knock and therefore reduce power output, you still might not get more peak (headline) power though
