Got round to fitting my Autometer boost Gauage.

Removed the Drivers air vent, made an MDF panel and covered it in vinyl and mounted the boost gauge. Will take some pictures tomorrow!

Actually turned out pretty well.

Usually me and MDF dont mix, brother in law owns a Car Audio company so have all the tools and undercover working place.

9/10 times I usually give up and let him to do it. But I did it all including the triming. Even glows red and matches the clocks. I figured this was a good place as I can revert back to the vent (doesnt really do much anyway) and is a half decent position without drilling holes in the dash!

Very neat job.
I'd thought of getting those gauges myself.

I could have made the wooden plate smaller, as the Vinyl has slightly bunched down in the left hand corner.

Nice job in both pics, especially the vinyl background. Nice

I have an autometer boost guage (silver with black dials) brand new in box. Maybe selling it if there are interested parties, as I have now bought an Apexi.

Yours looks good twistywizard. I was going to do it that way also but decided it would be easier (i'm lazy) to use a bit of dash plastic from another car. Mine isn't as good as I would like though - for a start the plastic dash I used is FORD

I fitted mine offset to make it easier to see around the sterring wheel. No probs there?

I used the tubing path through the magic grommet behind the wing panel - did you go that way.

Nope can see her just about Ok.

I came in down under the passenger side gromet near the middle. As I was running some thicker Gauge power cable for my Amp.

I did consider the same route but this was easier seeing as I was doing this anyway!

Nice work!

I would like to see a picture where you can see the complete dashboard and steering wheel.

Anyone?

Fine, also one pic from the rear side of the gauge.

Have you just press fitted the gauge in the panel or have you use something else/more? Bracket maybe?

The Gauge is press fitted into it, but the Autometer came with a Metal bracket that would secure it if needed. But it doesnt need it so I didnt see the point in fitting it!

I am going to create a how to guide as I took photos at all stages through the fitting. Mine has got a graket on the rear holding it in place. I'll take a pic today and post it.

Also I took power off the dimmer switch just below the guage so that it comes on with the lights etc, I'll do a guide and once its done I'll start another thread. Better stop hijacking Twistywizards

Nah thats fine mate Hijack away!

I didnt take pictures, but could provide al Alternative write up for doing an MDF spacer covered in Vinyl if you like and then people have 2 options.

I also took the Power and Ground from the Dimmer. If you want another section for the write up then send me a PM and I will knock one up for you
