Wasn't there a Halfords-X or something that was going to start the ball rolling with modifying a few years ago? Or Ripspeed-X or similar?

I apologise for the way I worded that post. I didn't mean to come across as if I was trying to confuse him. Was just saying about how he did get really confused.

How comes they don't have more of the X stores as there is a lot of call for more customisation places, especially here?

yellow20vtbmx - One thing that slightly annoys me about halfords

I probably spend quite a bit of money in there every year, why don't they have some sort of discount/royalty cards? (and I don't mean Halfords credit cards). I think I'm making them a mint \:D

@nobby, do you have a trade card? also the vast majority of shoppers into halfords are men around 69% and most dont have or do reward cards.

its a good idea though

I get frustrated with the computer system like anyone else, but I don't think Halfords are worse than anywhere else. My local motor factor always ask for the year of the car, the only advantage being that they often have the paper books with drawings of components in so you can look and see which one is right, but if you know that much you probably know which year Rover 620 the calipers came off anyway (for example). Any computer system is the same, you have a process to get the information out, and the one at Halfords suits people with standard, popular cars which probably makes up a lot of their customers.

Ben, didn't think I had seen you in Wakefield for a while, now I know why. Your Dad is still in Wakefield isn't he?

I've checked out the trade cards bit on the halfords website - the only category I come under is 'High volume of purchases'

How much do I realistically have to buy each week to apply?
£10 a week, £25, £50..... etc..

I have also had this exact conversation !

However - when you are desperate for a part late on Saturday or a Sunday that is when they are the most appreciated.

I think that we all need to reamber most halfods employees are young and starting out in there life. This job may just be a means to an end. not a carrear choice. Most of them will probably be getting national minimum wage.

One thing you will learn in the customer service industry is that most people quickly get crushed in to submission my jackass customers. I worked at epson for a time. And you get so detoured by people treating you like S*it that you quickly become unhappy and no longer want to help any one. Not even the people that most deserve it. you get used to people lying and or trying to trick you. So you don't give any one any slack.

I got out of eposn because i was unhappey. Not a lot of people can make a change that easy. Id surmise that the same is the same for all industry's and perhaps there are people in the job that hate it and have no choice. These are the people that give a company a bad rep

You could always knock up an appropriate bit of stationery on your pc to take along to show you are a trader. Or find a helpful member of staff ;\)

the guy I spoke to at Halfords has been there many years and i would say about 50 but just isn't really that clued up I think unless you have a run of the mill car.
One of the better people in our local halfords is a young lad, about 22, that i've known a few years and always goes out of his way to help, cowboy and mona know the one I mean (the lad with the astra), always look for him now.
I think you are right and a lot of the staff merely use halfords along with other retailers as stop gaps when moving on the higher things.

I've worked in retail for 19 years, now a manager and also did training for 5 1/2 years, all you need to remember is to sort out the wheat from the chaff, and make sure you treat your return customers very well, on first name terms with most of my daily customers \:D

I asked for a product that only comes in one GENERIC size, as I stated! Surely the computer can tell that!! All he had to do was put in any year. Even a child could work that out!

I must admit I do find it annoying though when you ask someone a question and they give you an answer to a completely different question that you hadn't asked. He asked a fair enough question - what year? and you told him what (different) car it was for. If you had just answered his question and given him any old year (knowing any old year would do) you would probably have got your brake pads without further ado.

Now I've just come out of Halfords having got *exactly* what I wanted: an extension for the radio ISO socket, and half a dozen scotchloks. And at a price that was only mildly exorbitant, too...

To be fair, the part I wanted was marked 'VW-Audi', and the only person who spoke to me in the store was the checkout bod...

Was looking to buy a jack and some axle stands and saw this - anyone else purchased/used Halfords lifting gear and can give them a thumbs up/down - pardon the pun \:D

I have that exact set. I got it on offer for £40. I've used it half a dozen times and I'm no thinner than I used to be.
