If the listed diagnosis is correct (possible cracked piston) what would be peoples guestimated financial estimate to rectify this (including labour)?

1000 for a bottom end rebuild? give or take depends who tou take it too and how confident you are with spanners!

may be easier just to replace the whole lump, a good second hand one can be bought for around £700, and fitted by motormech for £400 iirc

Yeh looks like it has the same hid's fitted as me from group buy. Does look very tidy. There has to be profit there for some who knows what there doing.

Mine was rebuilt by a well-known Coupe specialist a couple of years back following a cracked piston. 5 new pistons, new big ends, and other usual stuff like cambelt while it was all out was about £1650 iirc.

So as Cappo says you would be looking at say 5k all in and your left with one tidy looking LE. Fsh new turbo all belts replaced. Only if had the time and dosh.

I have seen that car at solo Italia, it is certainly very clean.
So you huys think it was the chipping that caused the damage? A GTEC 1 is hardly pushing things too far...
Unless of course it been run with too high boost.

Yep, it's mine. Have been to the South East meets a few time. It is tidy, I just don't have the cash to repair it and with a 12 week old boy now in the family I was considering getting a bigger car towards the end of the summer. I don't think the chip caused the damage and there is no boost valve fitted to the car, unless the chip was causing over boost. If I could repair it myself I would but as I was looking at parting with the car there seems no point really in spending the money. Shame as it is a cracking car!
