I seem to remember someone installing a subwoofer in the wheel well in the boot. I have done a forum search but can't find the damn thing. Anyone got pics or links to pics and/or idea of how well it works / sounds or am I just going mental?

OK, for anyone that's interested here, I have done a bit of research and found a nice JBL 10" Sub (1000W peak 350RMS) on eBay. dirt cheap...hehe....So ordered it, gonna get an amp on Loan from a buddy till I can get one I like. I'll fit it in the Wheel Well and provide piccies and install guide when i can, may be a couple of weeks before I get to it though, MOT end of this month.. \:\(

Sorry was on my N95 so could not post a link. But this one is what I was referring to.

Not much of a how to but it does show the structure of the box a bit.

seems to me a really good way of making the boot un-useable!!!

Well yeah, I have thought about that owl. Was thinking of building a support to go over it so you could use the boot still .I do have the feeling that I may end up building a "stealth box" like the one FastEdd and a few others have done, but I want to give this a try 1st. I'll onl post piccies and stuff it it works to my satisfaction...hehe

And cheers again John, that looks wierd. It's in the well, yet it's a square box? It also looks too big to have gone into the well, or are my eyes just getting old? lol

That's my install in the link above. \:\) Hope the swedish language wasn't too hard to understand for you... ;\)
The goal was not in anyway to be the ultimate spare wheel well install. I built a sub woofer box (out of MDF) with sound quality as priority number one. The box has the correct volume that the sub needs. Dimensions according to the manufacture of the sub, etc...
The box is extending about 10 cm above the floor level of the boot. Not ideal of course, but not a problem for me since I don't use the boot to ship large things too often. There is still plenty room for my needs. The sub box can however be easily removed if needed. For track days or euro trips.

If you would go for the ultimate sub install in the well I think you need to mold your own box using glass fibre or simlilar. To get as much volume as possible and follow the geometry of the well as close as possible. Way out of my league, I don't have the resources (knowledge) needed. \:\)

Hey Alex, lovely set up you have there - especially like the chassis on your magnet sub, quality!

I don't suppose you still have the dimensions your sub box was built to do you?

Cheers

Actually alx, the Swedish wasn't too bad for me, I know about 8 words in Swedish but a buddy of mine IS Swedish so got him to do a little translating...hehe

Yeah, thought the box was a little proud of the wheel well itself. Made my mind up now though, gonna do the stealth box opposite side to the petrol tank idea. Have everything I need now, if I can find my camera I'll do a couple of vids of how it was done. I have a 10" JBL sub which in the box I had it in to try it out seems really deep as well as punchy bass. The box I need to build needs to have 0.75ft³ volume. This makes the box I'm going to build 15(w)x15(h)x 8(at bottom) 10(at top) inches. It will ofc be fibre glass back and shaped to the car for maximum box volume. I'm also going to sound deaden the surfaces the box will be touching to prevent vibration. then it's just a matter of hunting any other rattles / vibrations down and eDeading them. Should be starting this in a week or so's time, finances depending as I need more eDead....lol

first proto of my sub box:http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/6824/dscf0016qt8.jpg

in the end it was pretty much the same, just some reinforcements here and there. I got +- 21L from it and much better quality of course \:D

That's a 12" you're putting in there I guess? Just thinking of the extra step you have put in at the bottom. Looking at what i am thinking of doing, I don't think I'm gonna need that step, but I should be making a start on it tomorrow, weather permitting.

ahh, I see. I'm making my box longer, almost the full length of the boot so I should get the full 24L needed that way. Still feeling a bit dodgy about doing the FibreGlass bit though, messy stuff and I've never done that before...
