I'm taking the mighty fiat to France soon. Was wondering if there are any of those stickers designed to reduce headlight glare made specifically for the coupe. (In case that's not clear, I mean the black bits you stick on the headlamp covers to ensure that when a car designed to be driven on the left is driven on the right you dont dazzle people on the oncoming carriageway - and which can happen because the lights are designed to illuminate slightly to the left).

Not really an issue with the halogens I've got at the moment but come holiday time I might be running HIDs \:\/

Do such 'glare masks' exist for the coop?

I wouldent bother mate - have lived in holland now for 8 years and 4 with the coupe - never changed or masked the headlamp - come to that never had an MOT or tax either - just insurance and they never questioned when they had to pay out once

I didn't use them on my trip last year.
The Coupé dip lights are so bad, but with hid's, you might need the blockers alright.

More importantly have you breakdown cover?

Breakdown cover, first aid kit, warning triangle, replacement light kit - all are essential on the continent and the latter three legal requirements most places.

Bikenut55 and I went on a big european drive last summer in his coupe and we followed the tips on THIS page by the AA!
We bought some light sticker things from Halfords, and they had a guide for fitting them to coupe type lights. I'm not sure that they did a great deal, but at least they were stuck somewhere on the headlights if anyone asked!! \:P

Just crank the adjusters right down if you are driving at night, although I would suggest any token beam modifiers as being better than nothing if the foreign plod are asking questions. Nice to be able to point to something even if you both know its crap.

Don't forget 10l of fuel in the boot if you're driving on the autobahn!

I've used those exact ones (from your link) on the continent before and they work well - good tips above though \:\)

I've also used the deflectors shown in the link - they work so well you can't see a thing on a wet, dark autoroute! But if stopped, they comply with the law and prevent unwanted fines etc.

Another thing to add to the list of essentials from July is a hi-vis jacket. Also, for France tyres on an "axle" must be of matching type - i.e. both front tyres should be the same as each other, and both rears should match each other. Also, don't go more than 40kph over the limit unless you like walking!

Will the stick on ones come off ok or will they damage the film over the light. Used them before and was a pig to get rid of the glue after removal.

When I used the stick on ones, I stuck them to something else (the packet) first, as it made them a bit less sticky. They still stayed on the headlights, and I haven't noticed any problems...

Cheers

Had the 'very wet autobahn at night' experience with the Halford stickers too and ended up pulling them off at the first opportunity on the grounds that I thought it was safer for all concerned if I could at least have an idea what lay ahead of me on the road. The AA sight is good for advice.

Only ever been pulled over abroad once, that was in the daylight in middle of no where some where in the Dolomites. Although I was a tad over the local speed limit, the Italian cops were only interested in seeing passport, Vo5 and some verification of insurance. Acording the locals later that evening it's actually helpful NOT be Italian if you do get puled over as most local police in rural Italy are put off prosecuting foreigners for minor infingements as it's too much paper work. Of course, that may not always necessarily be the case.....
