Hi, quick question, have read a lot of posts saying how a turbo can overboost briefly to say 1.4 bar before falling back again to 1 bar using the standard ebv, how damaging is this and could it cause engine failure, thanks

The turbo will survive and the engine will probably be ok as long as it was a brief overboost.

I was told that brief boost spikes are ok as long as the fuelling is ok.

As long as it is tuned correct for the boost and the engine is capable of holding the boost (most likely yes) it will be fine. The danger is when it detonates for whatever reason, then it will be bad.

A standard turbo will not like operating at 1.4 bar for long periods though, it will not last as long.

This is completely normal for a standard 20vt, and will not cause any damage to the engine. \:\)
