I couldn't believe it when I phoned my insurers, Privilege, to find out if my premium would change if I put non-standard alloy wheels on my Coupe. My policy runs March-March and to specify different wheels worth £300, which are understandably classed as a modification is going to cost a one off price of £113! I was thinking the robbers would ask for £50 at most!

I'm going to phone back and ask to speak to a customer services manager and complain that it's over the top. I've got full NCB and a clean licence for what it's worth.

But will I have any success I wonder?!

Yeah the correct insurer will see mods like wheels as a good thing rather than racking the premium up.

well if it makes you feel any better, over the last 12 months I've paid twice as much to insure my car as I have spent on fuel for it, and I've done about 5000 miles ;\)

...and thats not fully comp! you should all be thankful you can actually choose your insurer, only one would give me a quote under 2 grand

ND told me 15-20% when I was thinking about turbo wheels for my n/a (16" vs 15")

I paid £85 extra when I declared my alloys. "because it makes it more attractive to thieves" They come up with some cr@p to extort you don't they.
