99% sure the Coupe is Dead now, there was one going in the crusher on Wed/Thurs Smashed to death with loads of Hand painted stripes and stuff on it, it looked like it was a green one originaly, some one had tryed to paint over all the home made stripes with Matt Black paint to hide what ever was under it

Huh ? what crusher. Oh well one less coupe, shame. Makes my car even rarer. I guess they couldnt handle it and decided it best to destroy it .

Saw that on Saturday when my copy arrived in the post. The other two cars looked like a Lexus 400 and a Sukuki Vitara.

So what sort of challenges do you think would be involved in a police car challenge? I'd imagine a top speed run would be in there somewhere?

I think chasing another car and stopping it is the going to be a big part of it.

The good thing is most of us on here have owned the coupe for long enough to understand the little bits the make the car great and not so. So it will be intresting to see what they can say about it for only having it I guess a few days.I hope they did some top end and track tests before they fccuked it up.....

they will be literally inundated... with a phone call should they fail to see the coupe is fantabulous value for money in any case - mind u, if her belts go on the chase??? oh the shame

And I for one, can't wait to see the 2nd hand values of Coupes dramatically rise after this.

As has been pointed out, this isn't necessarily going to be a good thing for Coupé prices. The car JC bought was less than a grand. It could either;

a) Do very well indeed making people believe that any coop over a grand is a rip off, or,

b) Do very badly, confirming peoples misconceptions that they *must* be unreliable as they're Italian and over 5 years old.

Agreed, and if it involves JC driving it on a track chasing stig be prepared for lots of handling complaints!

I think he's going to absolutely slate them.

There were enough if us at Stanford Hall for Auto Italia (39 coops to be exact) and I would say he actively avoided us all as he did his walkabout of the event.

I think he'd have felt compelled to say something nice about them if he'd come over. That would have been hard for even him to do after giving something a massive slating.

Apologies all, I have been shockingly bad and let work get in the way of the rest of my life.. I got as far as looking up the new series on ORAC (BBC Worldwide's catalogue system) and saw that there were two "sets" of top gear this year, giving it quite a long run.. no synopsis information was forthcoming, nor press materials at the time It looks from thread above that more information has been forthcoming from elsewhere for which I can only hang my head in shame.. by way of restitution I could always pass on Polish subtitles or Scandinavian subtitles once we get hold of a copy..

Ah. I can see I didn't make that clear. My comment was meant to be dry/sarcastic. After the number of posts by others on here saying how much we should see the Coupe price increase after this.

I've always said, TG will make no difference to the 2nd hand resale values of the Coupe. If anything, with rising fuel costs and peoples diminishing interests in rapid fuel consuming cars, they become less desirable each day.

Still very glad I have one though.



PS: Just hope it doesn't end up like the Lancia Beta Coupe in the Africa challenge from Top Gear....

Clarkson surely chose the coupe because he has always liked them. He will have to defend his choice which will be about the power and speed. As long as the car held out that has to be a good thing. Sure, he will be bound to criticise it but that is only to be expected from someone who basically gets to spend his life driving a selection of new cars with high sticker prices with no worry about running costs and depreciation.

Look in the radio times and the the pic of the green coupe is obscured by clarksons leg but you can make out the last two letters which are..... LC

ive just been on the topgear homepage and theres the stig in an astra police car on the topgear test track so hopefully theyre comparing there cars against it and they send him round in the coop aswell
