Right, Getting on to the ice part of my project now...
Have quite a lot of old ice kicking around and deciding what I can fit into my coup...

Don't fancy ruining the lines of my dash by removing the top air vents, but still want to run a two headunit alpine set up like i did in my last car (cva 1004r with dvd changer into cda 7876rb for processing and 3 pre outs). I've seen the rather snazzy looking carpc monitors there so I'm sure there is the room; and was wondering are there any double din centre consoles out there? or if not how I could best adapt mine...

If not I may just have to use the kca 104v expansion box I have somewhere instead and just have the one headunit :-(

Oh and still deciding on front components (rears are gonna be infinity kappa 6/9's on mdf mounts, with a soundstream da vinci sub)... Contenders are infinity kappas, soundstream ecgs, rockford fosgate fnx's, jl xr's...

And lastly does anyone know and good box builders, and I'm talking box designers as the Da Vinci sub is too good to put in and off the shelf box as well as being too big and too heavy!!!!

Personally wouldn't bother with rear speakers if you're going for front components / rear sub setup but anyway;

Have a look at this for double din install position;

Also depending where you are, try Steve at MegaWatt in Runcorn, Cheshire. Top bloke and an IASCA Judge so really knows his stuff.

Yeah, sound would be purer with just the front and would normally not use 6/9's but they are left over from an old install and too good to waste. Also they're more than good enough for rear fill as I do often have passengers.

With the two headunit setup, I can kill the rears for sq as and when I like.

Southerner, me, so fair play for recommending Megawatt but a bit out of my way :-)

wow that looks great. There is space for a double din on the 16vt

i haven't got the heart or skills to make it work however.
does any one know who would take on this kind of work?

Anything's possible with enough money. \:D

An IASCA Dealer close to me has already stated that he can put a double DIN screen in mine where the standard unit and ash tray are currently. By using fibreglass, I would imagine that what you want could be done. \:\)

Reuven
I'm already in the process of doing somethign very simular to this! Its been a long time coming ..... (long boring story).

I'm mounting a 8" touchscreen PC into the dash. The Screen will sit from under the (ink black) dash strip to just above the heater controls.
I have fabricated and fibreglased the screen fascia into the dash and cut the old buttons out which I will need to use again eg. hazard, lock, alarm, fog etc etc.
When cutting the old buttons out I have made sure that I cut the mounting plates that the buttons screw to out aswell. I am moving these buttons down to where the ashtray is at the moment so that I still have the use of a stero if I can't be bothered to use the CarPC, Plus it makes it easy to keep radio and easy control of volume.
I have in the last couple of days got hold of another ashtray which I will now fibreglass the buttons into and then trial fit the whole thing to make sure that no more trimming will be necessary before I fit it all.

I will post some pictures later tonight of the progress if you like so that you get what I mean. Pictures say a thousand words.

It hasn't cost me a lot to do it but it has taken a good year before I have got round to finishing it.
Just shows that its possible to do it if you fancy it.

O and the other thing is that I have still got original console, ashtray etc so that I can always put it back to standard in a jiffy if i need to \:\)

My other thought for two headunits which I'm less keen in is to mount one of them in place of the top air vents which are din sized. But obviously It'll mean hacking up the air vents :-( Think it'll be a case of removing the ashtray and putting it there, but then again I still fancy the carbon fibre console from the group buy pages...

Here is mine as it stands, not finished yet but you get the picture.
I have the touch-screen already and tried and tested it.Just need to get the CarPC off BrianMay at some point when I actually get round to finishing it lol

Piccy of centre console.

and another showing the smooth curve \:\)

I took the fascia off the touchscreen adn fibre-glassed it into the centre console as above.

The buttons that were removed I have kept along with the pre fabrecated holes and screw loactions which are now going to fit into the spare ashtray I have just got my hands on.
I will post more pics up as I continue this venture lol.

Here are some other pics that make me smile.

even the missus helped \:D

When I got frustrated !!!!

What do you all think ??

she ain't very happy in that picture \:\) as I've told you, you still have a long journey on the wet-sanding process to level everything and get it ready to paint...but in the end you'll ask yourself "how could I have lived without a carpc??"
