Hi, my alarm fob got wet and no longer works doh ! Its a small black fob with one concave and one convex button. It has three pins on one side and a sliding switch on the side.

I can no longer disable the alarm and the hazards are permanently on. What can I do to disable the alarm ? Can someone pm me instructions ? Thanks in advance.

The fob has mpt 1340 wt license exempt written on the back if that helps. The led comes on if you try and arm / disarm the alarm and the panic button lights up the led, just doesnt do anything. Had a look under the dash and can't see anything that resembles an alarm I can disable...

That's a Scorpion 918U alarm, the raised button is the "panic" button and switches alarm on straight away, but if all it does is flash the indicators with no siren, that indicates that the alarm ECU is still there and still connected to the indicators, but the alarm siren is turned off, disconnected or just plain broken. The alarm siren is normally placed just ahead of the passenger front wheel behind the "side" lights, is a black box roughly the size of half a box of 10 CD's (if that makes sense ) the alarm ECU is usually stuffed up under the dash somewhere, try removing the end panels, on my Oct 96 20vt it's behind the passenger air vent, on other cars it's above the fuse box. The slider switch on the side enables/disables the inside motion sensors (usually screwed in to the bottom of the A pillars) and when the alarm is switched on the indicators flash and siren chirps twice if sensors off, three times if on.

Presumably the key in the door will still work the central locking?

You need to find the ECU and disconnect the connector blocks, I think there are two, good luck!

ok sorted, many thanks for your help DaveG. If I get the keyfob working now that I have disabled the alarm will the remote central locking still work. ?

Also I guess I cannot get a replacement keyfob without my red key / card ?

The central locking will still work when you get the keyfob working again, it's independent of the alarm system \:\)

Keyfob, won't need the red key. These people used to be able to supply the fobs but I'm not sure if they are still available: click

Thanks for that, it is no longer possible to get replacement fobs for the the 918u alarm. Looks like my fob had had it.

I really miss having the remote central locking, is there a way I can easily swap the necessary parts for another coop, or would it be easier to get an aftermarket solution ?

You can get an aftermarket fob set from Ebay to control the central locking see this thread Even has a separate btoon to lock and un lock which I prefer.

Ha, you jest, but when doing DIY (eg: drilling, sawing) I have to take my glasses off, so I am officially middle aged \:\(

i've got a similar problem to marculos. Fob is fine but when activated the alarm sounds quietly and the hazards flash. Can turn the alarm off but the hazards still flash. Either alarm or sensors are bust. Took it to fiat dealership they said couldn't (or didn't know how to) disable the alarm without affecting central locking - it would appear from above they are wrong. how do i do this please? in a pm please. 20v Turbo 1998.
thanks.

is there anything else that could cause the keyfob not to work, e.g. the integrated services ECU ?

I'm having exactly the same problem with my alarm.

So if I acquired another 918u ECU and it's fobs from a breaker and simply plugged it in to my coop might it do the trick? I just want my remote central locking to work \:\?

Should work, I bought a brand new 918u off fleabay, used the siren but also plug-n-played with other bits and yup, you should be able to swap 'em out. Look for early 20vt's (late 96, 97 and early '98 for the 918u, car should have scorpion sticker in the window, later cars had the meta system) and I dare say other Alfa's of the same vintage had it (since the 918u came with a choice of Fiat or Alfa sticker on the remote \:P )
