As the title says pretty much, had my coop for getting on 2 years now spec so far is:
Gtech Chip
Prv (set at 1.2bar for RR)
Ragazzon Exhaust System
Power boost valve
K&N Induction Kit
Forge DV006 Dump Valve

Last time i was on the RR i produced 271bhp @ 5830rpm with 268 lbf.ft. I use my local RR http://www.hitechmotorsport.co.uk/ so no idea how accurate they maybe.
Anyway ive been wanting to break that 300bhp mark and then i would satisfied. From what ive seen reading the forum i would need and Uprated turbo, Pro Alloy FMIC & possibly a EBC (Greddy/blitz e.t.c)
Ive been in touch with Turbo Dynamics as they seem to have a good rep on the forum and they say they can upgrade my standard turbo to three different specs
Brief Specifications: -

MD370 High flow T28 - 55 Trim Compressor wheel, C.N.C. re-profiled compressor housing, modified bearing housing, 360 degree thrust bearing, left hand thread shaft & wheel assembly fitted with “staggered gap” total seal piston ring, cutback turbine blades Uprated actuator – optional. Recommended maximum boost level is 18-20 P.S.I. Approx 280-300bhp

MD238 High flow T28 - 60 Trim Compressor wheel, C.N.C. re-profiled compressor housing, modified bearing housing, 360 degree thrust bearing, left hand thread shaft & wheel assembly fitted with “staggered gap” total seal piston ring. Uprated actuator – optional. Recommended maximum boost level is 20-22 P.S.I. Approx 300-320 bhp

MD347 High flow GT32 - 48 Trim Compressor wheel, C.N.C. re-profiled compressor housing, modified bearing housing, 360 degree thrust bearing, left hand thread shaft & wheel assembly fitted with “staggered gap” total seal piston ring, cutback turbine blades Uprated actuator – optional. Recommended maximum boost level is 22-24 P.S.I. Approx 330-350 bhp

I was looking at upgrading to the MD238 Spec. As im not technically minded was wondering if the upgrades sound right.
Anyway so could i expect to see 300bhp with the MD238 spec turbo, FMIC & EBC? Ofcourse taking into account handling and brakes.
Any advice appreciated, thanks for reading ;\)

Just get a GT28R or GT28RS, FMIC, boost controller and a live map.

The MD238 is more commonly known as the GTiR turbo, I had one before and it was great! (but it only lasted about 25k miles) MD370 might be a superspool? No idea what MD347 is.

If I were you I'd ditch journal bearing turbos for the old technology that they are, and get yourself a brand new GT28R. The GT turbos use ballbearings instead of a journal bearing, which is better. That should get you over the 300 bhp mark just a bit more easily than a GTiR, it's what I'm using now and it's awesome \:#

A good FMIC and an electronic boost controller wouldn't go amiss, maybe get it remapped as well?

But then like alot of people say if your on standard internals, its probably not going to make your engine last too long.

Got to agree with that - you're not going to get much more from a standard turbo anyway. But before any of that, I'd upgrade clutch, brakes and suspension (if you haven't already). A decent EBC (Greddy etc) will allow you to hold the boost higher up the rev range too. A good turbo back exhaust won't hurt either.

Good luck with it. \:\)

What exhaust is on the car?

If it is not a full system then I would go with a GTIR rather than GT28R.

With the GT turbo the power is all mis and top end - so the car has to be flowing well without a resrictive exhaust. If there is a restriction then you'll make the same power on a gtir and more torque with earlier spool.

Does anyone know how much it cost to replace a bad ball bearing on a GT28R?

All the companies that i have talked to about the GT series turbos say that they are a pain to refurb, often needing a new core. I would get hold of turbo dynamics or turbo technics in the UK and ask them.

Probably more than it is to buy a new one from ATP turbo.

So a GTiR can easily run 300bhp? As there one for sale now so could grab myself a bargain.
Also are they a straight swap or other parts aswell.

With the right supporting mods (fmic / ebc etc), a GTiR should get you to 300 or thereabouts.

Straight swap for the standard turbo and Jaip's is a bargain at that price.

I don't think a GTiR will get you to 300 easily, but what it will do is have good spool up and hold more boost to the red line.

Based on what your current set up is, I would maybe say that your RR place is on the generous side.

I would, get some cooling, get some better boost control, get a unichip and get a hybrid turbo, and you will see 280-300.

But really, don't just go hunting headline figures, look for driveability more so.

Well i was thinking about getting the GTiR, FMIC % EBC.

Any ideas what boost to run on a GTiR? 1.3bar?

1.3 would be absolute max, and not really advised in the height of summer, I would say day to day 1.2-1.25 would be OK, with good cooling. All my opinion though \:\)
