yes - a manual bleed valve of some description

do you have a boost gauge fitted? If not, I would advise you get one, as otherwise you have no way of knowing what the bleed valve is set to.

A ha!

Yup I need a boost gauge then. My car has been running a bit underpower since I got a new turbo. I think it needs adjusting.

Is there a how-to guide for setting the boost levels to standard spec? I'm a complete novice at this kind of thing. I don't want to set the boost to some crazy level and blow the hell of of the engine and the turbo!

What is the coupe's normal boost levels anyway?

normal boost is 1 bar, tailing off to about 0.6 - 0.7 bar at the redline

Most standard turbos will safely take 1.2 bar peak, but will still drop off to 0.6 - 0.7 at the redline. However, before any kind of boost-related tuning, you should have the car checked over (fuelling, compression etc) just to be on the safe side.

Almost all non oil-related engine failures have been the result of too much boost, usually causing detonation followed swiftly by cracked pistons, or underfuelling, followed very soon afterwards by a melted piston or three.

Thanks Nigel,

I plugged my widget in the other day and fuelling seems to be okay. The engine was compression tested about 8 weeks ago, but I'll get it checked again prior to any tweaking.

I def don't want to run any higher boost or anything. I just think the boost was adjusted for the previous turbo which has now been replaced.

The two nipples of the ebv are not blocked! I thought this is necessary. Are you loosing boost presure?

Huh? You've lost me there. What nipples?

Don't think I'm losing boost pressure. I have no boost gauge so I can't tell. Turbo still kicks in at 3k rpm and accelerates well. It's just not as manic as it was a while back.

Previous turbo was kinda......
"no, no, nothin, somethin,(boost) holy sh*t!"

New turbo is more like........
'no, no, nothin, something, (boost) mmmm that's quick-ish"

If I was to think of a number that's not 220 (bhp) I'd say my car feels like a 190.

P.S. You own LE No. 0001?

Wasn't that Schumacher's car or something?

The two connections of the original ebv are open. I have blocked them with a vakuum hose.

Yes, I own LE 0001. But I can not prove that Schumacher was the preowner. In the Vehicle licence the preowner is Fiat AG Germany. The garage owner were I bought the car said, it comes from swzerland an was preowend from Michel Schumacher.
