If the car is standard then it's not advisable, if it's modified with an uprated turbo then it's worthwhile from a performance point of view. I have a swappable cat/decat and when the cat is on it feels a bit more restricted and subdued.
Probably about 10 bhp difference in it for me, 5 bhp on a standard car.
Yeah, from having chatted to Rog at Powerfiat it isn't worth decatting without changing the turbo. The reason being the lack of back pressure from removing the decat will cause the turbo to smoke... and then die... The standard turbo only has 270 degree oil seals so will leak... A refurbed turbo or uprated turbo with full oil seals (360 degree thrust bearing) will allow you to run a decat... And Although I haven'e fitted my decat, when I fitted a decat to my scooby it sounded lurvely...
I was gonna add the Lancia Delta Integrale engine (same as the 16vt) has the same turbo and general setup and they never came with a CAT as standard back in the 80s so a 16vt can run a decat all day long!
YES it will reduce the life of the turbo but the car does not rely on backpressure as much as the 20vt
Hi mate. I fitted a decat to my coupe and within 2 weeks it started to smoke .As for the noise, it does sound good but my mate has got a back box and the end silencer removed and that sounds just has good. If you do decat you will need a new turbo
