Well to cut a long story short I have been trying different things to cure my flat spot on my car yesterday.

Ok this didn't actually cure it but it made a change to the noise of the car and hasn't affected performance at all.

My car had an Apexi cotton cone induction kit on and just for experimental reasons I've put a Pipercross foam induction kit on which I didn't pay any money for it's just been sitting in my garage from my Saxo.

First thing I noticed was a massive change in the noise of the car. Off boost there is a much louder/growly induction note and then on boost it sounds like it's going to suck small children in off the street and changing gears there is a very distinctive wastegate chirp before the dump valve takes over and I love it!

Performance wise it feels exactly the same so far but was worthwhile just for the noise so if anyone hasn't tried it, give it a go. I'm going to try and find a way of getting some cold air to it using some ducting pipe I have in my garage and hopefully that will improve things further.

I'll post up some pics of the finished install and comments are welcome. Has anyone else plumbed in a cold air feed somehow and if so how/pics?

u can get a venom induction kit, that has a cold air feed.. if not, move ur induction kit when u get ur intercooler on. think most people just drill holes in there standed boxes.

Can recommend K+N cone with 30 degree angle bend. Bin standard airbox. Oiled mesh prevents small children from being inducted. \:\)

PMSL well after much trial and error I still haven't managed to make a cold air induction system as of yet sadly but I'll keep trying!

There must be some way to get some nice cold air to a cone filter on these cars!

not to burst your bubble but foam is one of the worse filtration elements on aftermarket filters today, being only slightly better than steel mesh. plus, foam is prone to dry rot and will disintegrate over time. that's probably why it's so loud, it letting a lot of air thru.

the apexi with a dry paper element is one of the best with very good flow. the K&N sits somewhere in between.

get a cold air feed pipe from the grill to the filter, drill a few holes in the grill. not sure how much difference it really makes though.

The Apexi will be much quieter because it has a nice cone shaped inlet that gives a smooth path for the air to go down, other after market filters like K&N just have a sharp edged lip that created huge amount of noise that the Saxo kids love.

You wont find a better filter than the Apexi, in tests it performed the best out of all the filters out there.

I'd have Apexi over the Pipercross any day. In fact I did \:D You get some trick filters for the 106 like the simota enclosed filters, that scoop nothing but cool air from the front, which I like.

Coopless!

just hope the oil from your foam filter hasn't knackered your MAF sensor and that is why you have problems.
I know on Scoobies they stay away from foam filters like they are the plague for that reason!!
