Stoke-on-Trent duck!
Hi there, i bought my coop in May 2008 and have decided to register on here as i love the car so much smile I won it on ebay for £1,270 and it has been fantastic ever since smile It is a 1998 Speed (or is it Rosso) Red, 20vna, fitted with 20v turbo alloys, the chap i bought it from used to do car valeting as a bit of a side job and it shows as the red is still really lovely and vibrant and is not a speed pink lol! Just wanted to say hi and was just wondering if you could answer a few questions i have please? 1. I live in stoke-on-trent, staffordshire and was wondering where is the best place to get it serviced as i want to keep it running sweetly and i know that regular servicing and tlc is the key to this, it has done 123,000 miles yet it runs superbly despite a bit of a squeal when i first start it up in the cold weather, it is fine in hot weather or when it has been run for a bit and 2. Are there any meets near to staffordshire as id love to attend. Hope to hear from you soon, any help would be brill, cheers, Tom

Hi and welcome.

Try the list of specialists on the forum for your servicing. It's at the the top of the Basic FAQ's section. The squeel when cold sounds like a loose belt. Easy to adjust.

Welcome

Take it to Motormech in central Birmingham for servicing and check Social events for local meets - if none, get organising yourself smile

Thanks for the warm welcome :o) The car was last serviced 3000 miles ago from when i bought it in may 2008 and i have covered another 2000 miles since, when shall i take it in for its next service, i have never had a car serviced before as im 22 and have only been driving since i was 20, have only had 4 cars (coop included) so was just wondering what a full service involves and should i mention tightening the belt? Do i need to go all the way to brum or can a general garage carry out the service, does it have to be an coupe specialist i take it? If i do then thats ok, be a good run out for the coop but was just wondering :O) Cheers

If you have not had it serviced, I'd take it to Motormech. The guy is a coop expert and very reasonably priced too smile

Full service = £160-170 http://www.motor-mech.co.uk/fiat_coupe_20_valve_turbo.htm

Hi,

I'm in stoke and take it to motormech - he's incredibly good value and you know he's going to do a good job.

I drop it in the morning and catch the train back - just over an hour each way. If he's finished that day I do the reverse the following morning - so long as your boss doesnb't mind you being in a little late for work you don't need a day off or anything.

Cheers for that dave, i think i will take it to him as i dont want to risk getting it serviced by a garage that hasnt worked on a coop before rolleyes i had my wishbones, brake discs and pads done at a local garage to pass its mot and while everything works fine, the steering lock while parked now longer works and the steering wheel really clicks when im turning for some reason now lol, wonder what they did to her :oS I work shifts 2pm til 10.30pm atm so that part of it wont be a problem :O) what coop do you have btw?

Steering lock? As in it doesn't turn when key isn't in? Odd that, not had any problems with it not working - sometimes problems with it not stoping working but wiggling the key / wheel sorts that smile

The clicks when turning the wheel are hopefully something to do with indicator cancel - make sure you tell Paul at motormech both of these so he can check them, I doubt he'd look at the steering if these were not pointed out - tell him they did the wishbones too, probably not important but if they've been taking suspension apart I have no idea what else they may touch - he will though smile

ps. don't know about the na, but isn't it due to a belt change? I thought it was 70k, then 30-40k after? The replacement belts not lasting so long for some reason.

welcome tommy and enjoy your car. i endorse what the others have said about motormech, he's a great bloke and very reasonable - what is more important is that he is brilliant with these cars and you get excellent value for whatever you buy/pay.

you just missed a meet at stoke ( i did too grr ) but there are normally a few a year around the midlands so look out for them, generally a great bunch of folks too!! cool
just make sure you check your oil every week without fail, and keep your eye on the social section for meets etc

Thanks for all the help and advice, i will give motormech a call within the next few weeks and get her up to brum for a full service :O) I check the oil religiously after i clean her at the weekend, always hovers somewhere around the halfway mark just a bit above, recently it was quite low as the weather has been really hot and ive been doing a lot of motorway miles so i topped it up today with semi-synth 10w 40 high quality oil, seems to run smoother now and the idle temp seems lower, perhaps its just my imagination lol. Where should the oil temp gauge sit at idle in hot traffic, mine always sits around 90 maybe a bit lower but never any higher, is that about right, on the go it reads about 3.1 bar and at hot idle just over 2.5 or dead on 2.5, occasionally drops to 2 . She seems very healthy indeed :O)

You've got the oil and water temp gauges round the wrong way - former should be 3 bar when on the go, ~2.5 ish hot idle

Water temp should be 90 after about 10 minutes ...so yes sounds good smile

Hi tommy, welcome to the forum. Sounds like you love your coop alreasdy, which is good smile Get over to Tatton Park next weekend, even if it's only as a visitor, you will meet a few coopsters and ask all the questions you want smile

Oil temp sounds correct for an NA.
