I started my little weekend project today, the pods arrived in the post at 10am this morning.

Not quite what I was expecting as the base was very rounded so I was faced with sending it back or attacking it with some powertools

I obviously chose the latter

Popped out and got some fibreglass mixed paste and got to work, took a lot of bastardising to get them to sit sort of flush to the pillar, in the right place for me to see both clearly and so I could fibreglass them into place, but couple of hours later and not too shabby

Next came the fibreglassing, wasn't sure how it was gonna turn out as I hadn't used fibreglass since I sculpted myself some sideskirts for my old bravo. Then the endless sanding, cheated with a detail sander to speed up the process as I was wanting my tea by this point

Got it sanded down ready for a skim of filler in the morning before spraying, the plan being to recover the pillar in black leatherette

real good job. What paint would you use for spraying?

going to use a filling primer to pick up any imperfections in the filling then using a satin black spray on the parts not being covered by leatherette there are holes in the a pillar under the pod to allow the wires to come through. Just waiting on the other gauge to get here from didcoop and I'll get it all fitted in during the week

next question. The a pillar is being trimmed in black leatherette with yellow stitching, however do I paint the pods broom yellow for a 2 tone? Baring in mind I have 2 tone leather seats, would this look good or would black look better?

sounds good but i would be boring n stick with black.

Black only for me.

Contrasting yellow stiching will work well.

well, I'm gonna give yellow a go and if I don't like it I can respray it.

i changed my mind at the last minute and went for satin black after a quick mock up in photoshop made the yellow look a bit ott. So its in the process of being sprayed at the moment

afraid not, but she will be retrimming the headrests as the previous owner of the seats scuffed them in storage
She has however made me a matching black and yellow gear gaitor

just the holes to make for the fittings and slots to drill for the wires and then wait for the AFR gauge and then bang it all in heh.

I'm pretty chuffed, just wish i'd taken a bit longer in the filling. Think my good lady's time, effort and patience made a big difference so mucho thanks to her lol

Why didnt you just buy a twin pillar mod from Nomad???

Money. The nomad pod costs £72 before postage. this cost me the price of a cheap pod off ebay and some fibreglass (£17 in total)

and I like to add a personal touch and not just stick bits and pieces on without thought and attention to detail
