Hi guys,

my coupe is lowered on 17" alloys and with LE lips, at the moment the lips get scrapped on roughly 30% of speed bumps when driving over them slowly which no longer makes me cringe as I have got used to it .
I am running on 215/40/17 front and rear but was wondering if it would be ok to try 215/45/17 up front to see of this helps any with the scraping of the front bumper, also would it be ok to keep the rear profile at 40 and raise the fronts to 45 or would this make a noticeable difference to handling....... any comments are appreciated.

Cheers
John

I wouldn't change the tyre profile - I'd simply change the way you drive over speedbumps

I'm lowered an 17" alloys and I have a Zender front bumper. I drive over speedbumps with two wheels on, two wheels off.

Having said that, I occasionally catch the underneath of the bumper on slopes and driveways, so I have fitted aluminium sections underneath, so that the bumper doesn't get worn through. Works well, lots of scrapes to the aluminiium, but no damage to the plastic.

if you went to a 45 it would change the rolling radius so you speedo would be out and i would change both sets not just the front , would look strange from the side looking at your tyres

Thanks guys, its hard to go over speed bumps the way you want sometimes in South London when there is constant traffic coming the other way, my whole road is is full with speed bumps and for some reason some are higher then others which is very annoying!
I might just change the front and rears to 45 just to see what the difference is like, appreciate the input thank you!

Cheers
John

By my calculations you'll add no more than 11mm to your ride height at the front.

If your front ride height is that low you also run the risk of fouling the arches with the larger tyre.

not to mention this would completely mess up the braking of the car, i had 215/45/17 tyres fitted when i bought my alloys and just stuck them on and it caused the car to pivot more over the front axel making it hideous to brake hard
