Hi All, I have a 99 20VT which I am starting to prepare for a track car. It has Full Roll cage, Front Strut Brace, VOGTLAND lowing springs,Race Tyres. What is the best suspension set up to get? Recomendations please!

I don't know whats 'best' but there are quite a few people running FK coilovers, KW coilovers.

Suba has some custom coilovers from balance motorsport
Sparco also has custom coilovers (unsure where from) and he runs in the Time Attack series.
I can't remember what Nigel runs - but he won the FWB class at TOTB this year

and if your talking about suspension you have to mention Jimbo, who has run almost every type of suspension possible (now running custom Ledas IIRC)

Sparco and I run Gaz setups. Sparco's is a full race kit, and mine is road tolerable but track biased.

Both kits are currently experimental - and need a custom top mount to work properly, adding in more caster and camber on the front to help understeer. This should be arriving in the next week or so, all being well then my kit should be commercially available soon through balance motorsport.

I believe that Nigel runs Bilstein / Eibach combo - certainly not coilovers.

If you want the car to perform on track then lowering springs is NOT the way to go. I actually think that standard ride height is about right for handling due to the wishbone position and the roll center of the car.

You also need to get an uprated rear anti roll bar (Balance sell these). Nigel also has a custom subframe brace, and has sold a few of them - see the group buy section.

I run Konis and Eibachs, with uprated ARBs front and rear, plus a strut brace and a lower subframe brace and polybushed wishbones.

With correct setting up, the car is pretty nimble, but also perfectly stable at silly speeds. I have pretty neutral handling in tight bends (pushes into gentle understeer if my entry speed is too high) and a truly planted feeling in very fast (ie 120+mph) bends. Its set up so that the back end will start to twitch if I lift off mid-bend, but I'm not a drift-meister, so I prefer the back wheels to follow the fronts wherever possible

Race tires usually like a bit of camber, you can use H&R CC112 camber bolt's upfront to set it to around -2deg max.
Will do an amazing change to turn-in and understeer.

I run the Eibach/Bilstein combo, Toyo R888 tires, H&R camberbolts (-1.5deg), Sparco strutbrace, Whiteline 22mm rear ARB, and battery in the boot. Soon to fit the OMP Alfa 156 lower brace.

This car is REALLY turning, with neutral/a TAD oversteer in long fast bends.
Not to mention how sweet the motorway ride is due to the Bilsteins..

I'm also running the bilstein/eibach combo with the 22mm rear anti roll bar, I have upper and lower front braces and am in the process of moving the battery to the boot. Where do you get the camber bolts from. Was also going to add 10mm wheel spacers... what toe etc do you run?. cheers tim

The Bilstien Eibach combo won't really be of much use on a track car for a few reasons.

The damper is only slightly uprated from standard and where it makes for a fantastic road use damper, its not stiff enough for the track. Also its not adjustable so your stuck with the same damper setting for all tracks and conditions.

The Eiback springs are again a road spring and designed for every day use, you need to go quite a bit firmer for a track spring.

Coilovers are the way to go for propper track use, you can swap between hundreds of spring rates and lengths and they are fully adjustable for all conditions and tracks.

Corner weighting may also help but the coupe is so nose heavy to start with

Thanks for the replies. Was a little worried that the Bilstein/eibach combo would be great on the road, but only average for the track. Is there a brand of coilovers that someone can recommend?

KWs are a great road set up, but again its a road damper not a track damper.

What happens when you need to turn up the rear damper to match track conditions.... you'd have to jack up the car, remove the bottom damper bolt and mess around pushing in and turning to get the right setting, not ideal for pure track use where you want quick adjustment.

As I said in the PM, speak to Sparco and Suba, they are both testing a track designed coilover by Gaz.
