Hi all, How do you tell the difference between a 5 and 6 speed gearbox. externally anyway. I've just been given an engine gearbox and front axel.. For free!!!. My mate doesn't know what year/model it came from. I can tell you all it's a 20v turbo as the turbo's still attached. Cheers Tim

There's 2 types of 5 speed gearbox and 1 type of 6 speed.

IIRC the 6 speed is made up of 3 casings so that should be a sign. I think one specific model has a cable to prevent you accidentally slipping it into reverse, whereas the others only have lift up plastic deflectors.

Have you tried pulling the linkages to find the gears? \:D

Chris

Tried today, seems to be jammed. Although i think it's a 5 speed unit (checked my eper). I have the same FMIC as you, but unfortunately I don't have any pipe work?. Can you tell me where you got yours or can you supply a kit?.. Cheers tim
