depends entirely on what you want the boost controller to do?

What features do you want / need?

How big does the face unit / solenoid need to be?

Where are you going to install it?

What's your budget?

etc. etc. etc........

Also how much control do you want?

Some will have a couple of settings (hi-lo), others allow settings in each gear.

I would recommend a Blitz SBC iD3, holds boost better than the Greddy Profec B (IMO).

Agree, I've just fitted one of these and it has transformed the car. compared to an Armval PRV, boost comes on earlier (if i want), and stays a lot furthe rup the rev band. Before it would peak at 1.2bar and trail off to 0.83bar, now it redlines at 1.03bar

Great interface, simple to use and 4 settings with lots of great options \:\)

Why is a three port good for what you want then? There is plenty of info on boost controllers on the net - you have to do some work and look for it.

am just asking what people think the best controller is.. what happens if i bought something and it ended up been the worse one for the coop? just think a 3 port would be better than a 2 port.

Pretty much any decent aftermarket controller will be a three port....

Popular ones on the coupe are Blitz SBC type R, Apexi AVCR, Greddy Profec B spec 2, Blitz ID3.

LOL - yes in theory. With the Apexi and HKS EVC5 you have a whole lot more features to play with - gear specific boost etc., and you have to wire it into the ECU. \:\)

Hi-jack inc...

Suba, while on the subject of gear specific boost, I was reading through the blitz manaual on the way in to work this morning ( ) and noticed the speed map function. Apparently you can set it up to use different pre-set channels at different speeds. Effectively, this could be to work like gear specific boost. It does however require the power meter attachment. Any ideas if this function is as good as it sounds?

I guess that depends on how the controller 'sees' speed - rpm, speedo reading etc. I can't remember how the APEXI does this... but I know that you can map the boost curve according to the revs, i.e. pulling back the boost if you can't get enough fuel in at the top end etc.

The obvious advatage to gear specific boost is that cars running over 300bhp can run less boost in the first few gears rather than having to rely on their right foot.

dont get me wrong, I dont have any personal experience with it - but I do know that people have had issues with self learning controllers not learning properly.

Gear AND rpm specific boost is the way to go in my opinion, so that's just the AVCR of the popular controllers I believe (correct me if I'm wrong!)
I have seen people endlessly fiddling with AVCRs though so I guess that means they are a bit tempramental.

My controller is amazing but unfortunately it is integrated into £2ks worth of engine management (Motec). Has gear+rpm but also manages against a target boost rather than a set and gain but maximises the set all the time. It also has traction control so I can set it up to maximise speed regardless of conditions and can boot it with the same map wet or dry if I set it up that way

If you want to fiddle around, otherwise go for the Blitz, simple and excellent

Dont go anywhere near a second hand controller - for another couple of quid you can get a brand new one. \:\) That model has been outdated now....

PC Programmable Electronic boost controller with 3 different maps

Sorry only in Finnish this webpage, but have you seen better with this price 350€ (including PC software & Electronic boost valve & the small controllet unit).
They make these Hestec products.
Maps are changeable during driving.

For example:
1. Mild map for friends
2. Middle hard maps for normal driving
3. Maximum hard mapping for racing

I just got an offer from this company who makes these. This Electronic boost controller mapped & wired by them and Fiat ECU live mapped for 1200€ which is go for it price - I think.

anyone used this boost controller http://www.blitz-uk.co.uk/ProductItem-310.aspx seems like decent value for money, do electronic boost controllers hold boost better than prv's further up the rev range, sorry for any hijack lol

you do not want the spec s unless you are not going over 1.1 bar of boost. You want the spec R - which works pretty well on the coupe.

only want to run 1.2 bar, would it not handle that, i thought the Spec S is rated up to 1.3 bar

i have the the gizmo msibc wich seems good so far, it was really easy to install, its supposed to have a faster processor than the apexi they are also making a add on unit to allow it to be gear independent and it also costs less than the apexi too! I tried to get a black avcr but could not get one anywhere!
