Hi All

Just wanted to ask if a pair of C+B cams would make much difference on an otherwise stock engine. There will be other outside mods such as FMIC, chip, exhaust, boost controller, fuel pump+mod but the engine internals will be standard other than the cams.

Cheers Rich.

They will make a difference, somwhere in the region of 10-20bhp depending on setup.

I can not recommend Gazzella unless you want them for about this time next year.

I got mine from EB spares (not for my coupe), their the main importer for C&B in the uk and took 2 weeks to get them in.

I'm currently taking Gazzella to a small claims court so i'd suggest you avoid them like the plague.

I got mine from auto-Integrale. They are still not in the engine though!

Hi Rich,

My friend got +35 bhp more with C&B cams. Std engine, TO4 turbo, boost equal in both RR sessions (checked from the video).
With OE cams he had 378 bhp/6300 rpm and with C&B cams 413 bhp/6700 rpm.

Better flowing intake to the turbo and bigger injectors or extra injectors.
Otherwise setup like Rich have.

Remember to budget in a cambelt change when you get them fitted, it all adds up.

Fortunately I own/run my own workshop and we Specialise in Italian vehicles so the fitting of the cams and a new cambelt wont cost anything other then the parts.

throw away the notion that you can change the timing belt every 72k miles if you fit these cams. Probably should change it every 40k miles at most IMHO as there is an increased load on the belt the whole time.

The other thing I would say is that if you can afford it then get the cams adjusted on a rolling road, there is a vernier adjustment on both inlet and exhaust and you can change the behaviour of the engine quite a bit by adjusting. That's true of std cams too, but I never tried it with them.

My findings were that you can gain quite a bit low down without any expense at the top end with a slightly different timing for them \:\)

Thats interesting to know John, did you play with the timing of both cams to get a better result ?

Is it the profile of the cams thats putting extra load on the timing belt, they feel quite a mild cam to be honest, it seems more increased duration rather that increased lift on them.

Yes both mine are not at the original position. It doesn't take a great deal to make a difference though.

The cams are at least 10% higher lift and 10% extra duration, but more importantly for both their performance and the belt is that the ramp rate is much more aggressive on the cams.

How do they affect the way a coop drives? Is it just a little more urge at the higher rpms or more power across the board? Also do you lose a bit of torque lower down?

F****** b****** thing...

Do you just run with the timing cover off the John if you adjust them on the rollers?

Hi

We work on Puntos, Cinquecentos, Seicentos and some Alfa mainly but we also work on all other makes and models. I have always had Fiats so thats what I like working on the most. We currently have 2 Coupes, 2 Cinqs, Alfa 155 and a Punto van(for work).

I havent really had that much to do with Coupes until recently when I bought my own 20vt. My girlfriend has had a 16vt for a while but I have only really done servicing/minor repairs to it as its standard and been quite reliable.

I have done some work for Didcoupe on here as he is local and needed a turbo, rear pads and a sub/amp fitting quickly.

Rich.

Yes original pulleys - they have vernier adjustment, they just don't have flashy marks

More of a faff then that I'm afraid, have to undo the mount and lift the engine to adjust. You also need to take the cam cover off

Ahh i thought so but then if it gives a better setup then worth it. When i'm putting mine back together i'll be asking you again for the procedure if you don't mind John.

Yeah I can give you my view based on experience

Barbz actually set mine differently to start with (obviously knew it would do good). It has only been adjusted vey slightly after that

The big no no with the C&B cams is timing them in with standard cam caps - they have their own proprietary timing mechanism - they are slotted at one end and there is a special tool

the tool should come with the cams! If not you can get someone to make one relatively easily
