Was talking to a friend about increasing the capcity of the 16v, it's not really possible like the 20vt
I was planning on running an aftermarket ECU, and my current motor does not have alot invested in it $$$ wise, he suggested that rather than a 2.0l if I wanted capacity I should consider a Stilo abarth 2.4l motor.
I was planning on "building" the 16v anyway, so obviously I would need pistons for a turbo application and rods.
What would be invovled in the hardware side of things? would a stilo motor phyiscally fit? 9mm taller but is that enough to make a difference that is a problem? engine mounts?
And will it match up to the 16V gearbox alright?
I realise the exhaust valves may also need to be swapped.
JohnS mentioned there are different versions of the 2.4l motors so anyone got the "good" part numbers - or which version
Thoughts?

It has crossed my mind before to fit a 2.4 na in a coup,my mrs has a 20v na and it sounds wonderful but lacks the performance of my turbo A 2.4 with cams ecu and throttle body`s would sound and go fantastic. BUT £££££££££ is it worth it? when you can get a 20vt for so little Ps is the 2.4 na a vis engine like the more modern 20v `s?

Only difference between a 20VT engine and a 16VT engine (to fit) is the gear box mount on the right side. You will have to use a different gear box cover (of a 20VT gear box) in combination with the mount... else the engine moves to the left. Thus I was able to install a 20VT engine in combination with a integrale 4x4 power train... -> It is possible to fit a Stilo engine, but it will generate some effort. Juergen

Well the 20vt gearbox mounts onto a 16v engine, I'm sure the reverse is possible, albeit with a couple of modifications will be needed to fit it

so, i can use 20vt 5-speed gearbox ( inside stuff ) and 16vt cover to fit 16vt as normal 16vt gearbox ... ? if the only difference is the cover.. ? to Vas : the car is planning to be 402m car, we have also talking about the lag... dont know when the car is running, but have to keep looking that car .. let you know then.. if that man still wrotes on the local fiat forum

There are two options for 2.4/2.5 - bore & stroke a 20VT engine or use the stock stroke of a stilo abarth engine. But to make it work from a 16VT start you need all the 20VT ancillaries, so it would be easier to use bits from a 20VT and bore & stroke the 20VT engine. Early stilo and kappa engines have different rod journals - so cannot rev as high (probably cannot rev over around 7.2k rpm). They are the same size as the 2.4TD journals if I remember rightly.
