Seeing as my car is going nowhere now, I've been thinking of improving it.

Now I know the GTEC route is pretty much the standard for initial power increases.

However, surely a remap is a better option as its tailored to my individual car (lets forget about cost for the time being) Would the gains be similar / slightly bette6r than a Gtec chip?

Finally, Am I stupid for considering this on a 110000 mile engine! (New turbo though smile )

Cheers all

Ben

Don't worry about the mileage, as long as the engine still has good compression and you look after it well then you can keep on boosting smile

A G-Tec is a great chip and should see you 25-30bhp extra. You can get a little more power i.e. 10bhp from a custom remap, but it's not much as the turbo simply won't give you any more on a standard car.

For the vast majority of people the G-Tec really works great out of the box smile If not then a custom remap simply makes sure that your car is healthy, and corrects the boost, timing and fueling if needed.

Cheers Flea.

Out of interest, if you remap the standard ECU do you still need the supporting bits, i.e. boost controller etc, or can the standard ECU do it?

Thanks

Ben

The ecu will control the boost via the ebv. When a car is mapped a boost gauge is used to set the boost correctly. Once that has been done you don't technically need to have a boost gauge in the same way a standard car doesn't. That said, boost gauges are relatively cheap and they give you knowledge that the car is boosting to what it should at all times.
