Right so i did have the gt28rs but am i right in thinking that the GT2871R can handle more power? also has anyone got a parts list for all the bits i need to order? I heard they spool up a little bit slower is that right? I just seem to hear many people using them...

You can't just say that a GT2871R spools slower / later than a GT28RS

It depends very much on the exhaust turbine housing

Mt GT2871R (0.64) is giving over 1 bar by 3,000rpm and full boost by 3,750rpm

By comparison, a GT28RS (0.86) will probably be spooling a bit later and almost certainly giving less power

However, for the same turbine housing, a GT2871R will probably spool about300 - 500rpm later, but will give considerably higher power.

Note that it will give more power even at the same boost level, but it will be capable of much higher boost (GT2871R compressor map shows its still in its efficiency island at close to 2 bar)

I will be getting from from ATP Turbo in USA, so would appreciate the parts list from anyone who ordered the GT2871R from them

So Nigel am i right in thinking that the GT2871R would be a better option in the long run? now im confused!!! and also has anyone got a parts list as Hani said?

I don't have a parts list - I just spoke with Turbo Dynamics for a spec, then parted with my cash and they delivered everything to Motormech

However, I drove a standard car recently and I was amazed at how responsive and punchy it was at low revs

You pays your money and makes your choice.....

I've said this many times before, but its worth repeating here.

Personally, I reckon a well-set up Coupe, running a small turbo and giving 300 - 320bhp will stay with my 400bhp Coupe in 98% of all circumstances. In some situiations, the lower power car will be qiucker.

Don't get me wrong - its great fun buzzing stuff like a BMW M6 (yesterday, A14 ) but similarly, its annoying to be left for dead by a BMW320D (yesterday, A14 ) when I found myself in a gear too high as the traffic cleared.

I've taken this a step further Nigel by plotting a dyno graph showing bhp & torque against speed. This way you can see how much power you are making on a through the gears blast. I've compared my latest graph with Welformed's 300bhp 270lbs/ft plot and the results are surprising.

My car was only making 262bhp and 256lbs/ft on this graph so it isn't as fair a comparison as I'd hoped, but at no point in a flat out blast does my car make more power. Despite his car only getting full boost and torque between 4 and 4.5k rpm, it still wouldn't be caught out of gear. The only place I'd have an advantage is if we 'opened 'em up' from say 2,500rpm in the same gear.

When my car has been fully 'Fleamapped' I'll have a bhp figure much nearer his and it should make for an interesting comparison. Big GT2871R vs tiny T28 GTiR @ 300bhp

Edit: I'll use your dyno on Torquestats and compare that to mine also. That'll give us your 300bhp tiny turbo vs your monster. I wouldn't expect to be anywhere near that at any point of the revband but it might show a few surprises

I ordered my GT2871 (.86) from http://www.frsport.com as they gave me a better deal and had the bits I ordered in stock. when you order, make sure that you order the actuator AND the mounting plate as many US companies don't include these in their quotes.

I had to order the following parts from ATP once I tried to fit all the pipes as I found the old fittings from my GT28RS did not fit.

45 deg, 1/2" NPT
Oil Drain Flange
This was a real pain as it wasted a further 2 weeks while I ordered and waited for delivery.

Also, you will probably need to bend the water pipes to ensure that it does not hit the fan or radiator.

Also, I suggest you get yourself one of these heatshields, they are great, much better than the crappy standard plate. You can almost touch the heatshield evan after a good thrashing. Really help to keep temps down. Strangely, ATP or FRSport don't sell it though.
Turbo Insulation
This is by far the cheapest I have seen these kits @ $70. Also, it comes with the heat wrap for the downpipe too.

Actually I have the parts list long time back (HERE) when I was about to get the GT28R.. now I am planning to get the GT2871R after the recent Flea solution for the 440cc injectors to work with the standard ECU..

I was wondering if some additional parts required for the GT2871R over the GT28R but it seems to be not that much..

Also, thanks for the info on the insulation.. I bought several parts from SummitRacing and they are fantastic
