SSW Mesh 2 17" 7.5 go on as long as you use wobble bolts and a cheeky 20mm spacer on the front.
Mesh 2

To be honest could probably use smaller spacers but I wanted to use hubcentric to be on the safe side

Hello all,

Been lurking for a while and finally got a coupe a couple of weeks ago. Already spent plenty on it - thanks Mariusz again for all your help with the Zender Kit.

Anyway. To add to the List of wheels that can fit the Coupe, I have just fitted 17" Wolfrace Vixens with a 20mm hubcentric spacer and wobbly bolts. There ain't much clearance but nothing touches.

There's no cabrio (check out the shadow for a clue) and that interior is out of a Golf Cabrio.

I know because I still have the Photoshop source files from when I made it. wink

Hi 20vtuga,

I purchased 20mm hubcentric spacers that you bolt to the hub, then you can use standard 28mm or 30mm woobly bolts to bolt the wheel to the spacer.

You can get 45mm and 50mm wobbly bolts but they are not TUV approved and I would not use them.

I would really advise against non hubcentirc spacers. If there is no spiggot or hub in situ to centre your wheels you will get vibraion at anything over 60mph and a lot of creaking and clonking noises from the wheels moving around on the bolts.

Bolts will also eventually shear and break, and you will loose a wheel or two.
Wheels are essential for roadholding and grip.

Use 4x100 wheels mate but make sure your purcahse hubcentric spacers that bolt to your hub then use 28mm/30mm wobbly bolts to bolt the wheel to the spacer. Make sure you use the correct torque settings.

I have, in my youth, used wobbly bolts on a cheap spacer that didn't allow the use of spiggots. The wheels lasted 2 days before they started creaking and knocking. At this point I took them for the very reason Per has stated above - the bolts would have sheared.

Hi Guys, I recently fitted 17" Team Dynamics 100+ Jets to my 2L 20v (Non-turbo). They look excellent, but the ride is very bumpy. Has anyone else experienced increased bumpyness with their 17" wheels, or am I the only one?!! I've tried to live with it, but sometimes it feels like driving a cart down a farm track. I'm seriously considering asking the place I got them if they'll buy them back and fit the same wheels , but the 15" version. (They don't come in 16", unfortunately).

15's will look too small IMO. 17's will always be more bumpy - how stiff the sidewalls on the tyres and their profile is also a factor.

The tyres are quite low profile, although I can't recall the actual size at the moment. I intend to have them put the 15" up against the car so I can get an idea first, but considering that the 15" wheels will only be 1" 'smaller' at the top and bottom, I'm hoping they might look ok. The originals are 15" and they don't look all that bad. I can always try 16" but I don't think alloy dealers really offer a 'try it for a week or so then bring it back if you're not happy' service, and 16" may well still be a bit harsh. I'm probably pushing my luck as it is hoping he'll buy the present ones back for a good amount, but I have to do something about the ride - my car's going to end up shaking itself to bits. Not to mention me!
They're ok on main roads, but I go to work and back across country using the back roads, so it's become quite annoying to say the least. A normal 'bump' in our MiTo feels like I've hit the Grand Canyon in the coupe!
I dread to think what the ride would be like with 18"s fitted! To be honest, I made the mistake of assuming that as long as the overall diameter remained the same to keep the speedo in check, the ride would be the same -I know now that the tyre size plays a big part in the ride comfort. DOH!!
Actually, before I go off changing wheels, would a change in tyre air pressure make a noticable difference to ride comfort? Can't remember the actual tyre size, but I have about 2" of side wall with a pressure of 38psi all round. Could I drop this, and if so, what's the lower limit? I assume that if I go too low, I'll just be bumping the rims down onto the inner tyre which can't be good?!

I've had std. 225/45r16 and the ride was hard(er), but never crashy or near the limit of uncomfortable.
On 215/45r17 (a slightly bigger overall diameter, causes some rubbing on full lock) the ride is even better! (increased rolling radius and allmost the same sidewall height).

As MiTo is not popular for it's cushy ride, and You don't seem to mind that, I'd say You should get your coupe suspension checked...

Hi, did as you suggested, and paid a visit to my mechanic, who had a look around, and declared the suspension ok, thankfully! Have gone back to Jet 100+ 15" with 205/50R/15, and the ride is back to normal. I probably over-emphasised the 'crashyness' (is that a proper word?) a little, but the ride did feel overly harsh. Probably noticed it more than usual, because of my constant use of very bumpy back roads through villages to and from work - and like I've had pointed out on more than one occassion, the coupe was designed to run on 15's.
So, problem solved...

Ok, sorry if I misled You and caused additional expenses.. It's very difficult to comment on ride comfort; different people -different experiences, conditions and expectations.

Contemporary cars pursue the aggressive/sporty styling route - big rims, low profile wide tires - leading to unsettled ride, high grip at the expense of steering feel and progressive slip, ultimately fun, even at low speed driving.

Anyway, glad to hear You're again enjoying Your car!

No problem - the car was in for a service anyway. It's more comfy now! (Pics on the 'Coupe pics page, if anyone's interested - but with the 17" rims!!)

Thanks,

Sorry if it's been covered but what's the deal with fiat 500 alloys? I've managed to work out they are 4x98, would need a spacer up front, but anyone know the centre bore? My google search didn't get any confident answers. Please don't make me ask my local fiat franchise!

Std. Fiat group pcd/bore is 4*98 - 59/59,1 mm
- used on contemporary 500, Bravo, Panda etc.
- used on out of production Tipo, Punto mk1, Bravo mk1, Alfa 145/146, Alfa 155, Lancia Delta/Dedra

Grande Punto / Punto Evo (and Alfa Mito) is mechanically linked to Opel/Vauxhall Corsa, so uses 4x100 - 60mm central bore

large cars (new Croma) /commercial vans (Scudo) use 5*108 or 5*110 - 65,5 or 70mm c.bore
