Hey all.
I don't really know any of you, but perhaps I will get to now I have a mighty Fiat!

Was wondering if anyone here has had any trouble with regard to the tax disc holder (centre of the windscreen), and the law..

Legally it has to be displayed on the offside..er.. side of the windscreen:

Just wonderered if anyone had been pulled for it? Seems like something so little, but there's obviously a lot of parking folk with quotas to meet..

Taa,
Philip

When you say in the centre of the windscreen, where exactly do you mean?
I've always had mine in the normal place on the passenger side right in the corner tucked away out of view almost, just enough for the jobs-worths to see if they so wish on their tax checking duties....

check out behind your rear view mirror at the top of the windscreen is a tax disc holder for 2 tax disks. Back in the day this is how italians displayed their tax disks.

Most of the Lancia Integrale owners display theirs behind the rear view mirror, but they can also argue that it would block their vision if they placed the disc on the nearside corner of the front window \:D

Nah, Matty, that's where you keep last year's club membership card and (in my case) an old science fiction convention ID card marked 'Barnacle' \:D

tax and insurance have to be displayed in italy and to this day it fits them perfect.... its the car thats insured there, not the person, hence if i was 18 again and facing a 2000 insurance bill for my first car in uk ...my first car would be from italy insured for 200 !!!!

not sure why no one does this.....

TBH I had never even thought about it being illegal, I've always displayed it in the middle after all it's where the manufacturer wanted us to put it.
Come on Stan give us your opinion \:\?

Yes Stan is a law abiding citizen, he would never go against the rules and regulations. ;\)

In the book it clearly states that the road fund licence should be displayed at all times in the lower n/s area of the front windscreen, and of course we all know this but choose to place it where it belongs, under the plastic display plate in the centre of the screen where Fiat designed it to be so that it doesn't spoil the look of the car \:\)

The issue these days is more likely to be that, in the act of leaning slightly further forward than they have been trained for, the authoritarian checking your tax disc will damage their back, rendering them incapable of ever working again, and you'll subsequently be sued for adequate cash for them to move into a converted 7-bedroom mansion complete with swimming pool (for hydrotherapy, obviously) and upkeep of the disabled ramps which they sprint up each day as they return from the local pub.

I got pulled over earlier this year by two plods on motorbikes after going past a camera van.

Them: "Where's your tax disk, youth?"
Me: "Just here. (points to disk in centre of screen) Is that okay?"
Them: "No problem, be on your merry way. Have a good day!"

N.B. This isn't the conversation that took place, but it was similar, and they didn't seem fussed.

I too have had people ask why its in the middle of the screen, and the simple 'it's Italian' answer normally puts a smile on there faces \:\)

I used to have it in the lower corner of the screen but it looked pap so have braved it ever since in the middle of the screen.

The van uses ANPR, it doesn't physically look at the tax disc, that would be just a bit too difficult \:\)
