This has been confusing annoying me for a little while now so I thought I'd ask on the forum to see if anyone can come up with a reason, or if any other coops are the same.

What confuses me is that the mark on the screen from the wiper sweep extends further than my actual wiper sweep. I originally thought that the wipers might have been adjusted before I bought the car and the mark still remained, but a few months ago I had a new front windscreen and the 'extended sweep' is back.

It doesn't have anything to do with the speed as I've watched on the motorway, the only thing I can think of is it is the water being swept to the side is travelling up the screen with the force of the wind. However, the line is perfectly straight and stops at the end of the wiper.

Anyone have any ideas? I think I'm going mad (or spending too much time driving on the motorway in the rain) \:D

There's an amount of slap in the pivots that drive the wiper. Depending on the direction of the wind, the voltage on the motor, the slipperiness of the glass... sometimes it moves further than others. You'll probably find it goes further on fast wipe than slow, too...

Neil, I now feel pretty stupid. Fast and slow wipe .

I hardly ever use fast wipe as it knocks on the bonnet, why it didn't occur to me that it will go further in the other direction too, I've no idea. I'm going to blame it on concentrating too hard when there is heavy rain... Any one got a 'D' hat and I'll go and sit in the corner?
