The autometer boost gauge I brought and fitted about 2 weeks ago is now not returning to zero when I turn the car off, its sits at about the equilent of negative 3 pounds boost. Is this a problem, does it mean that the boost guage will now be reading 3PSi under, I have read on google with some guages if they don't zero it doesn't matter and they still read correct, anyone got any experience with this?

Saint mine did the same. what i would say is ignore it as it works out about right but just be aware that you may be over reading by 3psi

Overreading or Underreading??? You mean I may be getting 3psi more than the guage reads. But begbie told me to run 1.7bar for track days plus 3 extra psi would be 28psi

Not overally happy if its under reading - have sent an email off to Autometer USA so see what they say.

Like I say it may just be that it doesn't settle in the right place and reads right but sounds odd.

i didnt tell you that you should run 1.7 for trackdays, i said you could and would not be adviseable without an uprated headgasket at least

i have an autogauge psi boost and it doesnt sit at zero. i had this on my punto gt and just to make sure it was reading right i hooked up another boost gauge and the reading was the same so nothing to worry about.
but if you just want to make sure tap in with another boost gauge just to verify as i dont want to be held responsible if your car goes bang on them track days.

But I have the Spesso Group N head gasket. When I asked about boost sure you said 1.4 every day and 1.7bar for the track

Alright - I knew you were taking the P*ss

Cheers Lee, May have to hook up another for a day but I don't have one extra. Maybe on the dyno the guys can confirm the boost for me.

This is all coming from the fact I am now only getting 3psi max (used to be 5psi max .45 bar) as my EBV stuffed out and I haven't fitted my EBC yet - this weekend hopefully. Think the Cat may be blocked or something. Had this happen on another car and it seems to stop the boost coming on but something ain't right.

O.K. heard back from Autometer here is there reply

"Hello.

Unfortunately, the gauge is not going to be accurate if it is reading off of zero with the engine off.
I am sorry, but you will have to send the gauge in to us for service so that we can take care of it for you. Please send it to:
Auto Meter Products
Attention Service
413 W Elm St.
Sycamore IL 60178

Please include your name address and phone number as well as a description of the problem.
Thank you.

So there we go then - needless to say I will take it back to the store where I brought it

Well there's a cheery thought

So you reckon in all honesty I'm wasting my time getting a replacement. The thing is only 2 weeks old

If you give it a tap does it get closer to zero? Many boost gauges do the same, it's a standard "feature" of the Equus guage, mine stops at -0.1 (-1.5 psi) so -3 psi does seem a bit much. If it cost £20-30 I'd say forget it, if it was £50 or more you might expect better.

Id say if its a 3min job to whip out and swap over go for it as no loss is there but if its like mine and glued to the back of the centre console not worth it

Its more like - 4psi and it doesn't go back if you tap it. I brought it in a sale but the gauge has a RRP of 70GBP so it's a pretty expensive guage.

It is a 5 min job so what the hey - may as well give it a go, if the next one stuffs out i'll mark it up to experience and not buy Autometer again.
