The previous owner had taken out the head unit when I bought mine (probably for the best given other indications of their taste...) so I popped a Sony CDX-GT50UI in and I think it sits really well with the rest of the dash. No naff looking silver plastic etc. Nice simple looking set, but it has a good range of C21st features (every type of MP3 input you could want, playback for non-audio CDs etc.) and of course most importantly it makes a good sound.
The blue backlighting is the only thing I might change, if I didn't need the iPod connector I'd have plumped for its (cheaper) little brother the CDX-GT424U 'cus it backlights red and I think that'd have been less obtrusive.

I recently fitted one of these which I am very happy with. Standard USB port, which comes on a lead from the back, so I have a USB memory stick hidden behind the dash, and dont need any CDs. Also comes with an iPod connector, which I've dropped into the glove compartment. And you can change the display colour to a red-orange which is a pretty good match. You can probably get it cheaper online, but I think I could only save about £10, so halfords is convenient.

Also comes with an iPod connector, which I've dropped into the glove compartment. Any tips on getting an iPod lead to run into the glovebox? I wrestled with mine from the passenger footwell for a while and eventually gave up running it to the centre console. Would be nice to be able to tidy it away.

I prefer Aplines, especially if you get one with a USB port on the front. Get a 8/16GB USB key and off you go

In the glove compartment on mine there was a blanked-off hole for something or other towards the right hand side, at the top. I just pulled the blanking cap out, checked I wasn't going to foul on anything, and put it through that. To make it really tidy I'd need a grommet, but not really worth it. A few well placed bag ties, and job done.
There is some airbag wiring back there, so tread with care.

If i want to run a connector from the back of my stereo (where the aux jack is) into the passenger footwell is that relatively straightfoward?
Can the lead just be poked down the side of the centre console or something?
John, when you jimmy the lead up through the back of the glovebox, how much clearance is there? Was it a 3.5mm jack that you put through there?
thanks for any advice
