Very pleased with FC Performance #697538

My spec is as follows:
GTEC2 HF
Pro alloy FMIC and water rad
PA SIP with Apexi filter
GtiR hybrid
Ported manifold and turbo
Decat exhaust
3.8 bar FPR
walbro high pressure pump with wiring mod
Greddy EBC

I took my car to FC performance this morning with a few niggly issues such as poor off boost performance and lumpy idling. I arrived at about 9am and Leighton explained the approach he would take. I was happy to leave the car with him for the day so I left him to it and received regular updates until about 5pm when the work was done.

Leighton explained that the 3.8bar FPR was causing more of a hindrance than a help because it was actually causing the ECU to lean off the WOT map \:\( . Anyway he sorted this out and mapped the fuelling for approximately half way between my low and hi boost settings \:\)

Driving home I was instantly aware of how much quieter and more refined the engine felt, like going from 3 year old mineral oil to new fully synthetic \:\) . Also on the motorway journey home the oil temp would not even reach 40 degrees whereas before it used to sit one or two notches above the 40 mark (although it was a chilly night tonight). I'm not sure if this is just a coincidence and the sensor is faulty or if it is now running much cooler \:\? .

I'm most pleased with the off boost performance which is now so much better, it feels like it spools up 500rpm earlier . This was my main request and I'm chuffed with the outcome.

It also feels considerably quicker, especially on the lower setting so overall I'm really pleased with the service and the outcome - I would recommend FC Performance to anybody who has modified their coupe. Leighton will post before and after graphs when he gets time - poor fella has to change his suspension tonight after a day's mapping \:z

I agree completely - Don't know how Flea has done it but after the live map my car feels so much more responsive off boost. Makes the car so much more drivable day to day.

Last time I had it on the rollers about 6 months ago it made 280bhp with a dodgy exhaust manifold. Hopefully it will be somewhere nearer to 300 now. I will get it checked in a month or two to make sure the fuelling is as Leighton left it \:\)

Well that was a tiring weekend... I was up until midnight fitting my suspension after mapping your car Saturday! Yesterday morning was an early start to prepare for the drag strip at Shakespeare County, unfortunately that turned out to be a waste of time as the track was just too cold and slippy

Anyway, bit about David's coupe \:\) Other than being the bargain of the century (I won't say how much he paid for it a couple of years back!!), it's a very nice car to drive and well modded. Nice to see a tidy engine bay ;\) I had a hunch it would be running towards the lean end of the spectrum and the first run confirmed this.

1st run @ 1.25bar

It was a bit lean coming on boost at 12.1-12.3 before fueling pretty nicely in the midrange. Just below 6000rpm it started to go lean again with 12.4 until redline.

In order to get a fresh baseline reading I reset the ecu.

Reset ecu @ 1.25bar

Once again it is a similar shape curve however it has now richened up a lot with 11.1-11.2 coming on boost dipping to 10.7-10.4 in the midrange before climbing back to 10.9 towards redline. Quite a significant difference.

A few hours later (going to have to put my prices up for these tricky cars \:P ) the car was mapped for 1.3bar and 0.9bar on the Greddy Hi-Lo settings. I also spent some time working on the off boost throttle response to make it a tad sharper.

Final run @ 1.3bar

I managed to put 40 miles on after the new map and there were no significant changes so it should hopefully settle in nicely.

Cheers David, hope you enjoyed your little day trip to Bristol \:\)

Let hope you're still mapping cars in 5 years time Leight. As that'll be when I'll have gotten round to putting this flippin engine together. \:D

Looks like another great map there Leighton \:\) After the essex meet yesterday, I reckon there'll be a few more cars coming your way soon ;\)

Any before and after dyno figures yet?

Sounds like a great outcome. Am guessing your fuel consumption is better, now?

How much did it cost, if you don't mind me asking? \:\)

I expect fuel consumption to be better but it will take me a while to test because I dont do too many miles. Prices are on Leightons web page through his sig but I think he may be reviewing them soon ;\)
