now before people start saying get a turbo get a turbo, i just want to make my intentions clear. Im interested in supercharging a 20v na car. Im not looking to get gains that you can with a modded turbo, im just interested to see if this can be done and what the possible gain would be. Ive been talking to a few companies over in italy who are willing to help out but its a bit far for me to travel. So far it seems the two best possibilities for superchargers will be eaton and rotrex. There isnt much space under the bonnet of any coupe but i think the most suitable place to fit this would be a direct replacement for the aircon module which runs off the belt anyway. Any advice and or opinions would be interesting. . and greatly received. ive seen this on ebay . . . although im more tempted to go for the more expensive rotrex charger... this is not something im planning to do for at least another two months so i want to do as much research as possible now. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?V...n%3D8%26ps%3D35

Don’t forget that a low mileage 20v engine might only be good for about 5-6psi of forced induction

I've looked into this for my 20v turbo, you can use a rotrex supercharger mounted to the aircon electric clutch using a boost switch to disengage the clutch at a preset boost level.. If you need a hand I'd talk to Ady @ Alfa Aid. They've done quite a few fitments to Alfa's so it shouldn't prove too much of a problem.
Cheers Tim
And no the mules right a std engine could probably manage about 1/2 a bar 7 psi at a push.... the turbo on the oter hand??? 1 bar maybe 1.2???... will let you know if I ever bother to try it

Joe, if he was going to use 4 / 5 bar of boost, the engine would go pop very quickly Mario, the 20v engine has been supercharged already, but not in a coupe, but in a marea with a supercharger

Are the 20v internals any different to a 20VT.?

I've got an M45 in my garage - I started to fit it to my 145 a few years ago but that's as far as I got. I've also got a longer belt which may or may not be of interest to you.

You can swap internals (rods and pistons) to get a lower CR. you can also just fit a decompression gasket or double-up gaskets.
BUT the problem is that all turbo and supercharger conversions usually stipulate that the engine should have done less than 25-30k miles. This is because the bores go slightly oval at the top on N/A cars and when they are then turbocharged you get blow-by. Changing to turbo pistons and rods will not help that, in fact it is likely to make it worse. Anything over 40k and you can definitely forget it as it will blow by severely. Who told you that? Doesn't matter how old the engine is. You need to measure things to tell if they're worn.

It is a rule of thumb. [/quote [quote=kj16v Who told you that? Doesn't matter how old the engine is. You need to measure things to tell if they're worn. It is a rule of thumb. Do you mean a safe rule of thumb assuming a standard engine that isn't going to be rebuilt or machined in any way? If so, fair enough. Whatmoretyres quoted it as if any engine's automatically gonna blow up for some reason just because its done over 40k. If a cylinder is out-of-round (within limits) you bore and hone it.
